Cask at Cloisters. Pours dark brown with a good tan head. Aromas have some dark malts, and green vegetables. Taste has a big chilli kick at first, but it rounds out as you go down the glass. No trace of plums, but good.

Cask at the Rake - Borough Market, London. Decent offering. Pours clear, black-brown with a bubbly, off-white head. There’s some dark fruit sugars up front then a bit of chili burn in the follow-through. At times you also get some roasted malts and dry cocoa. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Chili spice in the finish with lightly offsetting chocolate tones. Fine for what it is.

Cask at the Rake, Borough, 21/12/13. Light black with a thin tan covering that retains. Nose is roast malt, plummy depths, dark fruit, chocolate. Taste comprises berry fruit, cocoa powder, dark toffee fudge, green pepper, damson, light chilli spice. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, spicey finale with a lingering spicey heat in the finale. Nice chilli porter, everything kept in check and well balanced.

Bottle at Craig’s tasting. Fizzy, sugary, sherbet, sweet toffee, a bit too overcarbonated for me.

RE-RATE: 500ml bottle from Stori, Bala. Pours black, thin tan head. Aroma is sulphur, light chilli. Taste is plummy with good chilli presence, some tomato. Cask @ Shrewsbury Beer Festival 2013. Really don’t know why I went for this after previous bad experience with chili beers. This doesn’t exactly sway me, but it’s a lot better than the last I had. Dark malts, slight caramel and a sharp chili tang that hits you as you take a gulp. Couldn’t get much plums. Overall ok, but not my cup of tea.
