Description
The Rothaus Brewery was founded 1791 through the Benedictine monastery St. Blasien in the “Zum Rothen Haus” inn (“To the Red House” in English). Following the secularizations of 1806, the Rothaus Brewery fell out of the hands of the monks and became property of the Grand Duchy of Baden and was renamed the “Großherzogliche Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus” (Grand Ducal State Brewery Rothaus of Baden). The November Revolution of 1918, which led to the abolition of the monarchy in Baden, caused the company to shorten their name to Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (State-owned brewery of Baden), as from then on the brewery was owned by the federal state of Baden.

Since 1922, the company has had the legal form of a stock corporation, the shares of which are currently held entirely by the associated company of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The continuously large demand for Rothaus beer has in the past made large investments necessary. This allowed the Rothaus Brewery to grow into one of the most modern facilities in Germany.

Draught at a café by Bergsee, Scharzwald. Pours hazy amber with stable white head. Clear aroma of malt and banana, with estery touches. Sweetish flavour of malt and bamana, with notes of yeast and caramel, and some sourish, grainy touches.Estery and acidic aftertaste with notes of banana. A very decent beer for the style, and a good thirst wuencher, too.

Tight white head on a cloudy pale lemon coloured body. Chalky & herbal aroma. Medium bodied, soft on the tongue with a tingle on the back. Wheat, citrus, chalky & stone fruit tastes with a tangy finish. All the tastes seem a bit dampened.
