Description
Fort George Brewery + Public House sits on the original settlement site of Fort Astoria, founded in 1811. The oldest US settlement west of the Rockies, Fort Astoria was the Pacific Fur Company's primary trading post in the Northwest. Fort George opened its doors to Astoria as both a brewery and a public house, and that desire to serve the community continues to this day. The brewers and pub staff here share a common goal, to create a welcoming space where anyone in town can pull up a stool and enjoy a pint and a bite to eat. We take pride in our house-made offerings and our hospitality, and we’re always looking for improvements that bring us one step closer to perfection. It’s a goal Sisyphus could appreciate, even if he doesn’t have as much fun pushing that rock as we do rolling those kegs. And that’s why we like to call Fort George beer the best beer you’ve had today. Tomorrow it will only be better.

Hazy blond color with creamy head. The aroma is lightly citrusy. Dry but smooth mouthfeel; crisp malts, with nice lemony hopping.
Fresh, pleasant.

Draught at The Beer Junction, Seattle
Black color with creamy head. Nice aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Full bodied, the fresh coffee is well integrated; some residual sweetness makes it easier to drink, and the alcohol provides a nice warmth. Resiny hops in the final.
Very good.

16 oz can from a trade with CaptainHook. Pours hazy copper color with off white head. Some sediment in the bottom of the glass. Pine and caramel aroma with a hint of citrus. Bitter pine flavor with some sweet caramel and grapefruit. Medium body with average carbonation. Good stuff. Thanks Jeremy.

Sample at Kurtkeller 010: Inventory Reduction-tastic 01 on 04/12/2014. This brew is a clear dark golden color with a medium foamy off-white head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, coffee and malt. Light to medium body with flavors of citrusy hops, subtle roasted coffee and toasted malt. The finish is roasty with a coffee and hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Can sample at tasting at Levi’s place. Thanks Levi. Unlike the commercial description here, this can says Saaz and Centennial hops were used. Clear straw with a white head. Aroma of floral and grassy hops, graininess, a corny note and some bread. Flavor has a bit of sweetish malt, a bit grainy, and quite a strong bitterness with some grassy hops and a piney hint. Light to medium-bodied. Decent.

On tap at Belmont. A clear golden color (dark) with a medium white head. A sweet nose mostly of coffee. The flavor is similarly dominated by coffee, some light vanilla, fruity hops, orange bitterness. Dry. OK. I’m not the biggest coffee guy.

Deep super hazy golden and orange-tinted body with a thick, rich, four centimetre tall tan head. Bright aroma of oak, yeast, bright floral and piney hops, alcohol, rich malt and wheat, some sugars and a very pleasant honey and sweet note. Medium to Full-bodied; Very pungent oak and dry characteristic with some wheat, grass and hay, all coupled with the bright piney and floral hops and a rich honey sweetness on the end. Aftertaste shows the large complexity and the delicate flavours of hops, flowers and yeast - very nice and robust throughout, but especially on the end. Overall, one of the best Imperial IPAs (or Belgian) that I’ve had in a long time - definitely worth trying if you can find it! I’m glad I brought this one back home with me! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon for US$7.95 sampled at home in New Paltz, New York on 17-January-2014.

500mL can, pours black with a medium beige head. Nose brings out bold roasted malt, some espresso, and piney hops. Flavour is very dry and bitter, bringing out roasty malt bitterness upfront, followed by piney hops. No residual sweetness at all, with quite a pronounced astringency. Very solid black IPA.

Bomber. Aroma consists of citrus, cotton candy, smoke, vanilla, wood. Pours cloudy orange with a large long-sustaining off-white head with excellent retention; leaves some decorative lace. Taste is bittersweet with flavors of coconut, citrus; has a lingering bitter finish. I was a little skeptical when I first heard about this beer. Oak and everything about the IPA style don’t sound like they would coexist very well. Turns out that in the right hands, they do! Thanks, Fort George.
