Description
The brewery was set up by former music teachers Steve and Christine Gibbs in 1994. The Durham Brewery produces a wide range of cask and bottle-conditioned ales. The brewery has a ten barrel plant but with a 20 barrel mash tun for the stronger ales, four 10-barrel fermenters and various conditioning tanks for bottled beer with a warm room for bottle conditioning. All production is onsite, including bottling, and it is company policy that there be no filtration and no pasteurisation. The brewery motto is “Perfected”. Despite all our years, this family owned brewery is still small, preferring to concentrate on perfecting beers rather than manufacturing volume.

Bottled. (A few months past BB-date.) Clear, golden with a white head. Fruity aroma with pine, hops and some malt. Malt, pine and bitterness in the flavor. Astringent mouthfeel, and a finish with alcohol and bitterness. A bit too piney. (060928)

A hazy orange beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet spicy and malty, and so is the flavor - here coriander stands out from the spices, but the alcohol also makes its presence known with a slight burn, before a citrusy bitter end sets in.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a hazy, amber golden with a nice, creamy head leaving a pretty lacework. Sweetish, floral - almost perfumy - aroma. Very full body with lots of malt and fruit, and then again these almost perfumy notes, that never manages to become unpleasant as they are neatly balanced by some bittering hops. Very distinct alcohol. Good stuff indeed. 080906
