Bottle: Pours a cloudy, dirty blonde color with a smaller white head. Nose is citrus and wheat, hints of spices. Taste is consistent with the wheat style of citrus, clove, wheat, and a light spice. Hints of witbier spices, but it doesn’t really stand out. Thanks Indiana_Red for sharing.

How can anybody remain unemotional after reading the name of this beer? Alky spec looks to be above average. The beer in this 12 oz bottle smells a little sterile industrial and clean, ahhh, no floral hops. Perhaps my olfactory detects some sour vinegary-ness. Beautiful wheat pour, swirling, hypnotizing, yeasty precipitants. Bright citrusy, but not sweet, flavors. Some alky bitterness does greet the side of the tongue but it fades rapidly. Not quite as clean as a witbier. On the finish you do get a little bitter bite on the tongue, back center. Overall, I’m glad the wheat beer style types exists, fun to drink.

Planet porter, pretty catchy name. Must be a planet on a boulder. 12 oz brown bottle from 3 sons in Wexford, cost was $2. Smooth chocolaty aroma, the kind of smell when you mix powdered Nestle Quick into milk. Taste is a little more Baltic than that. The aroma just lures you in, the taste is more bitter and burnt roasty. Tastes like a higher alky beer than what is listed here. Dark nearly opaque brown and a darker alabaster head. Head eventually fades to a girdle on the inside of the glass. Not quite as enjoyable as Yuengling’s Black & Tan. Tho a medium length finish, it at first comes on with some tongue back malty bitterness that is kinda hard to ignore.

bottle - Pours coppery with a thin head. It smells very malty with a little alcohol. Caramel sweetness and some moderate hops balance okay in the flavor that’s joined by a touch of dark fruit. Overall it seems to lack depth. It’s definitely a barley wine and tastes pretty good, but it’s just not very interesting.

On tap at the Mad Mex in Robinson. Aroma is a little hoppy and the pour is darker than your typical pale yellow american beer. Has an off white head that fades to tea like froth. Mild hop bitterness greets the tongue but this is interestingly tempered by a brown ale flavor that is somewhat like Fat Gary. Finish is not quite as oppresive as I imagined after the first taste. Overall a decent brew that is easy to drink. Has enough hop bite and personality to let you know this is a pale ale but it is not overwhelming. As good as or better than Erie’s Hard cock ale and better than other pale ales I’ve had such as Sly Fox Phoenix Pale Ale, Hereford & Hops Allegheny Pale Ale, Flying Dog Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale or JW Dundees American Pale Ale .

Bottle Poures a slightly hazy light orange/amber. Big thick creamy off white head an d great lasting sticky lacing. Aroma was a little stale and cardboardy lacking some of the bright citruysy hops I expect from the style. Flavor was pretty straight forward. Light malts and some bitterness but not as much hop flavor as I was loking for. A significant lingering bitter trailer and a fialry dry finish.

Bottle Poures a slightly hazy amber with a medium sized white head. Coarse spotty lacing Aroma was a nice balance of sweet malts and a little bittrer hoppiness. Citrusy mainly. Flavors were very similar. Very nice Pale Ale.

Bright copper colour. Rich nose - caramel, earthy hints and chocolate. Fairly thin, which doesn’t allow for a true BW impact. Both malt and hop are really standard for the style - anyone familiar with this style at all will be like "yup, that’s a barley wine" and then move on.

Light bronze colour. Grapefruit, wood, cedar, maybe even ginger. Somewhat thin for the style - maybe the thinnest I’ve had yet. The hop bitterness is mellow but it’s the main component here. Some nice fruity character but lacks the malt to back it up.

On tap at a great place in Pittsburgh, Mad Mexcan. Same old pale yellow american beer color. Head starts big then fades to a one quarter inch froth. Has big and small bubbles. Big smell of hops impact. A very hoppy initial flavor impression. I am not disappointed, hoppy as ever, just what I was expecting. Right on target for this style. Grapefruit rind galore. Finish is lingering and lasting. Gimmie a chaser.
