Description
The Brasserie d'Ecaussinnes was founded in 1999 by the Bruges couple Isabel & Hugues van Poucke. In 2012 the Chinese importer Xiaoning Yu bought the Brasserie d'Ecaussinnes from the Van Poucke's. Together with his friend and beer aficionado Michel Simon, he decided to invest in the former Brasserie d’Ecaussinnes. Substantive work was done to update the production and refresh the image of the brewery. In 2014, the introduction of a new team gave a young and modern dynamic to the brewery and the name was changed into Brasserie Scåssenes. In 2015, the brewery launched its own revolution….the 1830.

In 2020 after years of setbacks (the existing installations of the brewery turned out to be too old or too large; while co-investor Michel Simon left the firm) a new manager was appointed to put things in order. Brewmaster Jerôme, a medical biologist, keeps an eye on the fully automated brewing process.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a clear, dark, reddish brown with a creamy, beige head. Very spicy aroma - almost like Undrrberg or Fernet Branca. Full-bodied with very sweet notes of brown sugar and roasted malt. Some licorice and then again these very spicy accents that I rather associate with a digestive alcohol. Dry, lightly bitter and rather alcoholic finish. 240906

Bottled at Delirium, Gothenburg. Clear, golden ale with a white head. The aroma has cellar, alcohol, candi-sugar, some fruityness and a hint of the inside of a balloon. Candi, spices, cellar and fruits in the flavor. Dusty, sweet and watery in the mouth. Drying finish. Somehow this beer reminded me of a tripel, and I was surprised to sense the alcohol that much, after all it is only 5% ABV. (060823)

Bottled at Delirium, Gothenburg. Chestnut-colored and hazy, with a large, collapsing beige head. Spices, cardamom and ginger me thinks, yeast, apples and some cherry notes in the aroma. The flavor is sweet and gingery, with some alcohol and sugar. Sticky and maybe a bit too thin body. Long spicy finish that leaves me with the Christmas feeling. (060823)

Bottled at Delirium, Gothenburg. Reddish brown, hazy beer with a large, diminishing beige head leaving nice lacings. Sweet and acidic raspberry-candy aroma. The flavor is mostly raspberry too, starting quite like natural raspberries, but soon getting quite artificial and candy-sweet. Sweet and sticky, medium body. Too sweet, but with some spicy notes in the finish. A good frambozen is nice, but I can’t understand why everyone has to put raspberries in all other sorts of beers, even if it can be successful in a imperial stout or similar. (060823)

Pour is a amber with a frikking huge white head Aroma, once the head went down, was a nice mix of candy sugar and yeastyness. Flavor is sweet and doughy with some sugar, cloves and corriandier showing up. No alcohol burn and its pretty non-existant although its there. Pretty decent Belgian and only cost $2 a bottle.
