Description
The Brasserie d'Ecaussinnes was founded in 1999 by the Bruges couple Isabel & Hugues van Poucke. In 2012 the Chinese importer Xiaoning Yu bought the Brasserie d'Ecaussinnes from the Van Poucke's. Together with his friend and beer aficionado Michel Simon, he decided to invest in the former Brasserie d’Ecaussinnes. Substantive work was done to update the production and refresh the image of the brewery. In 2014, the introduction of a new team gave a young and modern dynamic to the brewery and the name was changed into Brasserie Scåssenes. In 2015, the brewery launched its own revolution….the 1830.

In 2020 after years of setbacks (the existing installations of the brewery turned out to be too old or too large; while co-investor Michel Simon left the firm) a new manager was appointed to put things in order. Brewmaster Jerôme, a medical biologist, keeps an eye on the fully automated brewing process.

Dark brown with little fizzy white head. Aroma of sweet malts (sugar) - caramel/nuts/dark fruits. Medium body and medium carbonation. Little warmth from alcohol. Finish has fruity and malty undertones. Lasting. Good! This isnt as powerfull as a lot of other "10 percenters" though. The alcohol well hidden!

(Bottle at Delirium Cafe in Gothenburg) Dark red brown color. Tan head, sour scent. Sweet taste, too damn sweet, god damn to hell it’s too sweet! Bad beer! No bitterness at all. I can not understand the high score of this one.

[Bottled] Hazy mahogany colour. Coffee aroma. Sweet and very malty with near full body. Fruity and lightly raisiny with notes of lingonberries. The high alcohol contents is well hidden. A well integrated beer that perhaps lacks that extra touch to lift it to greatness.

[Bottled] Cloudy brown, rich creamy head. Very sweet with spicy lingonberry aroma and near full body. Dominated by saccharine and gingersnaps. The mouthfeel is pleasantly soft, but the excessive saccharine sweetness creates a burning, inky sensation that overpowers everything else.

BottlePours a slightly hazy deep crimson with a small but lasting light pink head. Awsome thick clingly lacing. Aroma id strong, up front raspberry. Sweet but a bit soapy or perfumy. Extract. Flavor is also sweet and very srong fruity. Cherry, raspberry and that perfumy soap that is on your gramas sink you have to use when you visit on summer vacation. Too bad too cuz I love these psudo-lambic/fruit beer/pancake syrup things. Soft very fine carbonation. Creamy somoth feel. Probly from the soap....
