Sample at Gents Bierfestival. Another of these new 'breweries' presenting a classically styled Belgian and pretending they commercially brewed it themselves - this trend has to stop. Moussy, medium thick, egg-white, stable head over a lightly hazy coppery amber beer. Aroma strongly sulfuric, with a very unpleasant sewer water as well as a strong DMS impression dominating and overpowering friendlier notes of banana, blue plum, caramel, soggy bread, gingerbread. Sweetish onset with banana, red apple and blue plum accents, medium carbonated, caramelly and toffeeish malt base, with that DMS stench strongly returning retronasally; the residual candi sugar sweetness sticks to the teeth a bit and is hardly countered by hop bitterness. Technically flawed, amateurish, underhopped and not particularly original, these guys clearly have a lot to learn, to begin with self-criticism.

Light brown colour with red haze. Strange beer. Some boiled vegetables. Warming alcohol. Strange.

Flaska från belgiuminabox. Ett par år gammal. Trippelliknande men med egen karaktär, dammig, lite vetesyrlig och rågpepprig, ganska torr med höig beska annars mycket typiska trippelsmaker med säd, estrar, söta äpplen. Gott.

Almost no head, dark copper beer. Bready, German malts-like. Sweet, bit honeyish flavour; again bready, with a slight acidic finish. Medium bodied, not very carbonated. Not special, but quite drinkable beer. Sorry, beir.

18/VIII/18 - 33cl bottle @ Gents Bierfestival - BB: n/a (2018-1015) Thanks to the Belgian Ratebeer crew for sharing today's beers!

Clear orange beer, small creamy off-white head, unstable, dissipates quickly. Aroma: malty, grains, some banana, yeasty, bit sugary. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, malty, some banana, grains, bit sourish. Aftertaste: yeast, some ripe banana, bitter banana peel.

F: big, white, average retention. C: orange gold, hazy. A: malty, bit orange peels, spicy, bit floral, fruity, bit yeasty. T: malty, bit orange, bit spicy, honey, floral, bit bready, quite watery feeling yet 6,66%, medium body and carbonation, nothing very special, partially enjoyed, 33cl bottle from Auchan Market in Luxembourg.

Amber beer in honour of the Belgian poet Emile Verhaeren, bottle of 75 cl from De Vidts in Sint-Niklaas. Thick, lacing, egg-white, irregular, coarse but stable head over a misty deep orange blonde beer, amber-ish but more ochre-tinged and ‘dirty’ with sediment. Aroma already very vaguely oxidized, otherwise delivering notes of toasted peanuts, red apple peel, dried peach, caramel candy, banana, chewing gum, raspberry, subtle floral aspects. Sweetish onset, bubblegummy banana ester mixed with peachy and apple-ish notes, fizzy carbo; residual sugary sweetness travels downwards over a caramel candy- and wet toast-like, slightly nutty malt body, ending in a very soft, floral hop bitterish note mixed with soapy coriander. Retronasally a bit of onsetting oxidation is noticeable; remains sweet and banana estery after swallowing. Old school Belgian 'ambrée', correct but not in top condition anymore, was probably a bit better when fresh though it remains pretty simple, bland and predictable like so many traditional Belgian ‘streekbieren’.

Clear to little cloudy amber beer, creamy light beige head, little stable, adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweet, caramel, pretty spicy, rotten banana, sugary, rather unpleasant, bit oxidized. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet, lots of overripe banana, sugary, caramel. Aftertaste: bit fruity, bitter touch, spicy, more banana.
