Little cloudy orange beer, small creamy off-white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of orange peel, bit fruity, some yeast, sugary, cookie dough. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very sweet, lots of overripe banana, banana peel, yeast, lots of alcohol, sugary. Aftertaste: banana peel, bit chemical, soft bitterness, sugary, some marzipan, bit rubbery / chemical.

330ml bottle. Clear, brass or faint amber colour with average, frothy, moderately lasting and lacing, white head. Sweet-ish malty, fruity aroma, notes of pear. Taste is slightly sweet malty and spicy yeasty, notes of pear, hints of black pepper and coriander; smooth and soft palate. Quite simple but nice overall.

Gekocht op zaterdag 4-2-2017 bij K&S Beer Tobacco Galerie in de Katelijnestraat 52 te Brugge tijdens het 10é Bruggse bierfestival. Een winkeltje waar je keuze hebt uit meer dan 500 verschillende bieren en met nog een ingang/achterdeur rechttegenover brouwerij De Halve Maan. En geproefd op 3-6-2017. Oscar Bruin is een donkerbruin en helder biertje dat bij het uitschenken een overvloedige hoeveelheid gebroken wit schuim produceert, het zijn allemaal grove bellen en het is normaal wandklevend. Na een tijdje is het schuim ineengezakt tot een dun laagje van grove bellen. Middelmatige CO2 verzadiging met fijne belletjes. Het aroma is zoetig met kandij en wat karamel, fruitig met banaan, perzik en rozijn, wat koffie-mout en wat kruidig met hout en kastanje toetsen. Ook zit er een likeur-toetsje in. De smaak is hop- en gebrand-bitter en wat zoet, de kandij en het fruitige zitten er ook in en ook chocolade-, gebrande-, karamel- en koffiemout zijn te onderscheiden evenals de lichte likeurtoets. In de mond heeft Oscar Bruin slechts een medium volmondigheid en een olie-achtige textuur met een normale koolzuurgas gewaarwording. Dit alles maakt dat je een complex tot samentrekkend totaalgevoel krijgt. De nasmaak vloeit lang uit en is hop- en gebrand-bitter en hierdoor lichtjes droog, de zoete kandij blijft ook redelijk lang hangen. Ook de gebrande en koffiemout zijn er nog steeds bij alsook de kastanje- en de lichte likeur toets. Oscar Bruin heeft heel wat aromas en smaken in petto maar het sterke bittere (op het wrange af) en de sterke gebrande en koffiemout kunnen mij toch niet overtuigen. Bottle from Beer Souvenir Palace, Brugge. Cloudy amber with a thick bubbly-frothy head. Certainly strong, but it has a dominant, slightly stewed tropical fruitiness in both its aroma and taste. Has a light to medium bitterness.

Bottle from Terre de Boissons Calais and drunk at home. Very dark brown almost black beer with a very thick beige head. Toffee, dark syrup flavour. Some chocolate. Malty aroma. It’s ok I guess. A bit too overly malty for me. ok.

Sampled both versions ( the unspecified bottle as well as the 2016-label bottle. both are 75cl. Both pour muddy brown, small white head. Smell (2016 label ) is sweet, malty, full, silmple but nice. The regular bottle has way more bitterness, less sweetness. Sharper. Taste is ( 2016 label ) sweet, rich aromatic dark malts. Bit buttery, in a nice way. Very easy, OK beer, but a nice drinkable beer and very nice to have in between. The regular one is off. Sharp, not as sweet. Seems like a less-worked out batch. i’d rate 3.6 for the 2016, and only 3.1 for the basic.
