Bottle from Waitrose, Witney, 29-07-06. Pours very pale and cloudy, with white frothy head, very similar in looks to Hoeggarden, aroma strange but some pine and spices?Tasted very pleasant again quite spicey, soft, some more gentle citrus coming through to balance really nice beer. Loz my partner really liked this as well but was convinced that she could detect a faint washing up liquid taste, which was strange coz’ I sort of knew what she meant I had smelt something similar in the Waitrose Organic Ale the night before.

Bottled. Golden beer with no carbonation and a small head. Weak aroma of malt and nuts with some roasted notes. Malty flavor, with nuts and some hops and burnt malt. Medium body and a dry finish. Most of all it’s boring, but at least it is not a bad beer. (060720)

Bottle picked up from Waitrose, Witney 10th July 2006. Amber in colour, bit too fizzy didn’t really detect the chesnuts at all either in the aroma or taste. Pleasant enough but a bit too sweet and malty really.

Bottle herbal hop note. Amber, low carbonation, quickly diminuishing head. Honeyish, nutty, light wooden and spicy flavor, metallic hop finish. Light body, sparkling carbonation, quite fresh really.

250ml bottle. Dense beige foam, gradually disappearing. Light amber colour. Nutty aroma (castagna?). Smokey flavour at first sip, then light malty with a caramel touch. Light body and watery texture. (Thanks to Vibeke for bringing the bottle as a gift all the way from Bonifacio.)

33cl bottle from Waitrose. Cloudy pale gold with lasting thick white head. It seems like I haven’t had a blanche in ages. Cereal and yeast aroma, some lemon. More cereal in mouth with lemony finish. Certainly not the best I’ve had. Bit soapy. It’s neither a refreshing citric wheat nor a complex interesting one. Bit bland.

Pale metallic copper colour; thick & fine off-white head. Bit sulphury nose, touches of soft caramel. And yes, they are there again: as with my first confrontation with Pietra, aromas as from oxydized malts - but the beer is young. Also a little rainwater smell. Very herbal character. The oxydized notes are less notable in the taste (also compared to the former tasting). Green leaves, end bitterness that is both herbal (as chicory) and hoppy (European hops). Maybe some pine or spruce. Light mouthfeel, light to medium body. Some slickness prevents it from becoming empty. I was curious as how it would stand up to my first, very positive memories about this. Less typical nutty & oxydized flavours as remembered, but it is way more drinkable as its rumoured new offspring by De Koninck of Antwerpen.

Fully hazy pale yellow with a slight minty hue; small, fine bubbled white head. Very spicey & perfumey nose: rosemary, lavender, heather, maybe some coriander. Way more intriguing than the ordinary wit. Again, very special spicey and herbal flavours. Maybe a bit dull, and, failing citrus, maybe less refreshing tahn some, but anyhow again a dozen times more intriguing. I’m at a loss as to the herbs used, except maybe for the rosemary/lavender streak. Light MF, reasonably refreshing, rather creamy texture. Intriguing variation.
