Description
Welcome to the page of Brouwerij-Stokerij Pirlot. actively brewing and distilling quality beverages since 1998.

Bottle. Hazy brown pour. Small off-white head. Weak retention. Aroma: oak barrel, red wine, dark malts, acetic acidity. Light plus body. Taste: medium dry, tart. Big win barrel. Tannins. Somewhat acetic. Background malts. Not bad. Just very far from what you'd expect from a BA stout.

One of those Belgian ‘streekbieren’ commissioned by a local guild, ‘t Straat, dedicated to oldtimer cars and located in Wijnegem. Brewed to an original recipe by Pirlot, even if this is nowhere mentioned on the label – apparently ‘t Straat wants us to believe that they brewed this themselves, considering the references they make to a former Wijnegem brewery (Ardea), although they admit that they were unable to figure out which beers this brewery made at the time. Anyway, bottle from Wijnegemse Drankenhal, with old-fashioned label in line with these guys’ core interest, I reckon. Thick and frothy, egg-white, densely lacing, stable head on a lightly hazy warm orange-tinged golden beer. Aroma of freshly cut red apples, banana, bubblegum, iron shavings, raw pineapple, soggy white bread, honey, plaster, bread yeast. Sweet onset, notes of pear, pineapple and the obvious banana ester, lively carbonation, slick cereally malt body with a thin metallic edge – as predicted by the iron aspect in the nose – ending mildly hop bitter, with a softly spicy, leafy hoppiness lingering on top of clearly more pronounced malt and residual sugary sweetness, with a yeast bitter accent to it as well. Yet another Belgian blonde with strictly local relevance only, one of those countless beers where the story is far more elaborate and interesting than the beer itself; apart from that, the iron aspect in particular bothered me a bit here.

6 October 2018. At Modeste Bierfestival, Antwerp. Cheers to Anke & Elke!
Clear golden with a lasting, small, unstable, frothy, white head; irregular lacing. Aroma of hand soap, unripe banana, yellow apple, sherry, grass, straw, coriander. Taste is medium grassy bitter, straw-like & spicy with fruity tones of apple & pear, sourish elderberry & a basic bready touch in the back; already warming up. Dry, grassy hoppy finish, spicy & yeasty, warming jenever alcohol. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation. Acceptable Tripel, somewhat a Karmeliet clone; can't give it more than this.
