Description
When we started making brilliant, innovative beer back in 1983, the craft beer thing was just a glint in Harvie’s eye. Now, more than 35 years later, we are proud to be the forefathers of this movement to better beer. Harviestoun is a proud, family-run business, our Chairmen Sandy Orr and Donald MacDonald champion a dedication to the craft that produces award-winning, natural brews made using the finest ingredients and purest Scottish water.
Founded in 1983 by Ken Brooker, the Scottish brewery has grown steadily to become renowned for their award winning beers. Head brewer, Stuart Cail, joined Harviestoun in 1995. Over the years the brewery has found new and innovative ways to create truly unique beers from their whisky cask aged Old Engine Oil to Bitter and Twisted, aged in Gin and Pinot Noir barrels.

thanks to dsnowden for this gem!
pour pitch black, really no surprise there, small light brown head that doesnt last long. Aroma is VERY roasty, lots of malt, and hickory smoke, and i’m getting a bit of soy sauce. FLavour is again, big on roasted malt, and a big smoky note in the finish, almost sausage like. A nice lingering bitterness in the finish also. SUper nice beer!

Dark brown. No head, of course. Smells like that rich umami creosote sort of dark malt tamari. Big whiskey on that, too. I mean, Highland Park, that's nice stuff. The body is light, maybe a bit of papery note because it is quite old. I'm guessing it's past its prime, but there still some cool elements here, especially the bit of dark malt and the substantial whisky accent.

Thx, Josh!
Oxidation that's getting into a tomato sauce territory, some pear and soy sauce. Taste is along the same lines, low carbonation. Meh.

Bottle at De Koffer, Groningen. Aroma is roasty, coffee, chocolate, dark malt, hint of liquorice. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with a surprisingly good roasty bitter finish. Body is medium. Fairly light on the palate, but aroma and flavour are pretty potent.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is gentle citrussy hops, grainy biscuity malt, fruits, with some floral hoppy notes. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and medium bitter. Body is medium. Not a hop bomb at all by American standards, it’s gently hopped with some nice fruity citrus notes. Easy and very drinkable.
