Description
When we started making brilliant, innovative beer back in 1983, the craft beer thing was just a glint in Harvie’s eye. Now, more than 35 years later, we are proud to be the forefathers of this movement to better beer. Harviestoun is a proud, family-run business, our Chairmen Sandy Orr and Donald MacDonald champion a dedication to the craft that produces award-winning, natural brews made using the finest ingredients and purest Scottish water.

Founded in 1983 by Ken Brooker, the Scottish brewery has grown steadily to become renowned for their award winning beers. Head brewer, Stuart Cail, joined Harviestoun in 1995. Over the years the brewery has found new and innovative ways to create truly unique beers from their whisky cask aged Old Engine Oil to Bitter and Twisted, aged in Gin and Pinot Noir barrels.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, online. Pours a clear gold with small but tight white head, nice retention and lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt, floral and light fruity citrus hops. Taste has an aromatic floral and resin quality about it, some fruitiness in the middle with a dry and moderate bitterness in the finish. An acquired taste this one but it is certainly hoppy. Medium bodied and chewy. I like it but not enough to buy another one.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours a dark gold with small white head, some retention. Subtle aroma but there is a slight zest and floral hoppy note. Taste has a light biscuit malt base but the flavour is driven by the hops with a nice mellow lemon and lime citrus flavour and some zesty floral and sweet notes. Could do with more of a bitter kick in the finish ironically. Light bodied but refreshing, doesn't feel thin. Quite tasty and I enjoyed it but it is a little one dimensional. Once you get past the pleasant citrus what else is there?

330ml bottle from lowcostbeer.com, can't see BBE. Slightly cloudy gold pour with small consistent white head. Aroma of corn starch and iced lemon tea note in the background. Taste is cardboard, biscuit, lemon, tea, grain, fairly sweet but with a moderate bitter bite in the finish to balance. Light bodied but not watery, fairly smooth for the ABV. Above average lager.

330ml can from Beer52 subscription box. Pours black, small tanned head, decent retention. Aroma is roasted malts, fruity raspberry, coffee, dark chocolate. Quite an intense solid roasty stout aroma with a little raspberry thrown in. Promising. Raspberry is more noticeable in the flavour with the fruitiness in the fore and then the other elements come in particularly dark chocolate, some coffee bitterness. Medium bodied, smooth with light oiliness. Good solid flavoured stout.

Bottle from lowcostbeer.com, BBE unknown. Pours a clear gold, small white head, leaves a nice top with lacing. Aroma grain, sweetness, floral and citrus hops. Decent depth for a lager. Taste is biscuit, honey, lime, floral sap, crisp grassy bitter bite. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation. Excellent craft lager. One of the best lagers I've had.
