Keg at the Cold Town taproom, Edinburgh, 24/02/23. Light golden with a white cap that dissipates edgewards. Nose is pale malts, grains, herb, light yeast, straw, white peppery spice. Taste comprises hedgerow, herb, grains, pale malts, lemon nip. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so affair and not getting much Sorachi.

330ml bottle delivered from Beers of Europe in Setchey, Norfolk and drunk at home. It’s really dark brown and opaque with a small khaki head. Big smoky and peaty aroma. Salted caramel, molasses, dark cooking chocolate. The intensity take a while to get used to but once you do it is heavenly. Sweet taste with a smoky sourness at the finish, and some clever bittering hops. I like this a lot although I’m not sure it exceeds the 12- and 16-year versions.

Can from Home Bargains, Salford. Very dark clear brown with an off-white head. Mildly gritty stout, and whilst not quite feeling that stated is flavoursome and relatively smooth. Has a good associated aroma too.

Tesco Express shelfie. Pale golden, low carbonation and head. Light dusty grain and hay, light herbal and earthy hops, subtle flavors, well balanced.
