Thick creamy, dirty-greige head over nearly black beer, reddish highlights. Liquorice, sandalwood, drop; dark and very roasted malts, rather sweetish nose. Severe bitter taste, wood, woodstripper, tannines, wormwood, hopoil. In the end it mellows after all, getting a bit more sweetish. Very slick, viscous beer, very heavily bodied. Very dry with long bitter, (hop)oily aftertaste. Certainly lives up to its name. To me, it’s more USA than UK, few if any old ales are so hopped. Thanks to JeanH!

[Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm] A hazy amber beer with a fine dense white head. The aroma is sweet fruity but very light. The flavor is very hoppy and grassy with fresh notes of fruit and malt.

This is a truly remarkable and unusual brew! The name and description entices the palate. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours thick, black and oily. There is absolutely no head at all. The aroma is oaky and lightly malty. Smells like a snifter of scotch. The texture is thick. The brew is rather bitter with a like oaky finish. Very reminiscent of a strong port. Definitely a slow sipping beer - and not one that I would choose to drink often - but I am definitely glad to have tried it.

2004 bottle. A light yellow, pilsner looking beer, with a small white head. Filtered it seems. Pasteurised? Most assuredly. Aroma of hay, hops, pepper, flowers and perfume-like alcohol esters. The hops are very fresh and give a nice zing on the nose, very pleasant floral aroma. Flavor. hmm, wasnt expecting this. I actually took a sip and exclaimed to my friends "what the f**k, this tastes like iced tea with a lemon!" That really stuck and I couldnt get around it. It had a tea and lemon sort of thing going on. I realize the low acid hops probably do resemble a brisk tea, and the light lemony citrus is to be expected, but it just seeme to dominate. No sweet notes. I’m sure this is a much different (much better) beer on cask. But as is, I just don’t care for it. Make the lemon go away!

A pitch black beer with a fine brown head. The aroma is roasted with notes of chocolate. The flavor is smooth with notes of roasted malt and bread as well ad chocolate.

Cask @ Akkurat, Stockholm Grassy, citric nose. Hazy amber, creamy low head. Grassy, citric and herbal hops on a relatively light malt body. Soft smoth mouthfeel.

Perfumed and citric hop nose. Pale straw color, low creamy head. Agressive flowery and perfumed hops. Tastes a bit like barbies dreamhouse looks. Lightbodied, kind of flat.
