Description
Aloha. That’s how most conversations begin here. It’s also how many of them end. But “Aloha” doesn’t just mean hello and goodbye and love and welcome. It means more than a word can express. It’s a feeling. A way of life. “Aloha” is the idea that we are all connected to everyone and everything around us and that true joy is found in respecting this connection. And it’s in this aloha spirit that the Kona Brewing Company was founded back in 1994 by Cameron Healy and his son Spoon Khalsa. They combined their love of Hawaii and its pristine, natural beauty with their fondness for delicious, local brews, and lucky for us, their dream lives on more than 20 years later.

So try a few of them. And join us in our pursuit of aloha.

Bottle pours a clear very pale yellow witha thin quick fizzy white head. After a moment it is gone and ther is no real lacing. Stale cereal and fruity apricot aroma. Pale light malts, a slight wheat and apricots and faint wheat notes. Dry somewhat chalky palate and a touch citrusy, leamon on the trailer. Pass.

Sample at Firewaters in Atlantic City. Pours a clear golden color with a thin white head that dissapears quickly. Spotty lacing. Lightly floral and grassy hops aroma. Light body with a mildly bitter hops flavor and an underlying malty sweetness. The finish is mildly bitter and lingering. Straightforward and overall an average Lager.

Aroma of citrus and tropical fruit - could be passion fruit. Light brassy color with a white head that doesn’t last. Full mouthfeel. Starts with fruit, gets a burst of malt, falls into wheat, and finishes with a mouthful of passion fruit. Almost a herbal finish. Then the approx. 15 IBU comes out. You could say the hop balances the fruit. Not sure where the malt went. Interesting and very refreshing.

Pretty nice, although I’m starting to wonder to what degree I really like the coffee beers, despite the fact that I love coffee. Aroma is strong with fresh quality roasty cold coffee, a touch of nuttiness, flavor much the same. The finish has a weak coffee aftertaste. A touch on the thin side. Dark red-brown color, small head.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Ever so slightly hazy, pilsener golden with a white head. Sweetish, malty nose. Medium body with very sweet malts and some floral accents. Reminds me mostly of a good, German Helles. The finish is dry - yet with the sweetness still lingering underneath. 280307

Clear amber coloured body with a light tan head. Aroma of fresh hops, a good malt backbone and some light citrus notes. Meidum-bodied; Strong taste of hops up front, fading quickly to a maltyness with very little else. Aftertaste shows some more character with a bunch of floral flavours running behind and a bit of a citric sweetness towards the end. Overall, a decent beer - well worth trying if you are in Hawaii, or if you can find this elsewhere. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from ABC stores in Honolulu, Hawaii on 26-February-2007.

Floral and sweet, but mostly sweet, This APA lacks the hop punch I like in pale ales. Clear amber pour with off-white head. Aroma is sweet malty — cookie dough — slightly hoppy — floral with a touch of citrus. The flavor is sweet and only slightly bitter. Dry finish. Somewhat syrupy with a medium body. Too little carbonation.

Bottle from Ledgers; Mose of cpffee?, chocolate, and some roastiness. Dark cherry brown with a small tan head; flavor of coffee?, cocoa, with a tiny smidgeon of hop bitterness. Only big drawback was that it was kind of watery. Good coffee porter.
