Bottle, 75cl corked. Sweet, roasted and chocolatey, lightly alcoholic, in a nice way. Some dark sugar and dried fruit. Cocoa and hints of toffee. Full bodied and nice indeed. Smooth. 848415

KKRYGG. Black color with a tan head. Aroma and flavor is malt, alcohol, dried fruit, oak, toffee, vanilla, caamel, cocoa. Powerful.

Bottle. Black pour, just a lacing. Nose: slight aroma of oxidation, dates, figs. Mouth: frizzy, cherry, a bit mold for expectations.

Sample size at Churchkey. Poured a clear golden color with a small white head. Aroma was big grapefruit notes. Pine resin. Smooth, with an sweet piney finish.

Had at Churchkey as "Various Methods II". Poured a golden orange color with a golden white head. Aroma was grapefruit, pine and lemon. Big grapefruit peel, some tangerine. Nice resin finish.

Bottle to chalice.
Appearance: dark brown to almost black in color with no head
Aroma: seems like the normal qualities of a Belgian quad but with some added orange peel and some ginger
Flavor: sweet to spicy to citrusy sweet, a light tart tone and some earthy sweetness; finishes with some candied fruits (the Belgian quad part, I guess) and some of the ginger
Texture: medium bodied, definitely a sipper; some smoothness but also some grip on the tongue from what I'm guessing to be from the Belgian quad part (and so I expected that), ginger seems to play a very little factor in any possible assertive behavior against my tongue
Overall: well, I liked this for me, but sometimes I wonder if the ginger and the orange may have turned this beer into something else. Eh, it is what it is and there I go thinking too much about stuff like this again.

Bottle to snifter.
Appearance: black pour and black in the glass with no head.
Aroma: big vinous scents; some dark chocolate, woody toned/barrel-like character; sly notes of sweet coffee, dark fruits, smooth earthy sweetness; subtle grassy vibes
Flavor: starts sweet with the intertwining of the coffee roast (which to be honest, isn't exactly very roasty at all) and dark fruity kind of tart character; finishes semi-vinous with some coffee sweetness
Texture: medium bodied, great sipper; light smoothness but also some tart harshness hitting the tongue as I expected it to.
Overall: what a beast of a beer! Not for the faint of heart, I was lucky to partake in this and unsure if I'll ever get a chance at this again but wouldn't mind another shot at this if that ever happens.

Bottle to tulip.
Appearance: dark brown/dark red in the glass with a one finger white foamy head which dissipated at a fine pace to leave some light lace
Aroma: raspberry - tart and sour character at first then a touch of the sweet side of them; subtle woody character; sweet grassy vibes, light lemon, earthy to funky vibe, light leather, some vinous sweetness
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas together in a fine sour to tart to sweet sort of way; finishes with the raspberries
Texture: medium bodied, surely this is a sipper as the dryness level and sour aggression is pretty strong with this one
Overall: pretty darn good for what it is but man oh man, boy did I need some water after this one or what! Woooeeeeee, if you're new to sour styled ales, I wouldn't start with this beer being your first sour ever, just my opinion.

Bottle to lager glass.
Appearance: golden bronzed auburn color with a two and a half fingers of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: some hay/grassy tones, slight pepper, clean malts; some earthiness, lighter notes of lemon far down in there
Flavor: mildly earthy with an undertone of spice and a rustic sort of malty sweetness; finishes grassy/earthy and hay-like
Texture: between light and medium bodied, somewhere between sessionable and being a sipper; some tart to rustic sort of grainy tones seem to be slightly assertive
Overall: interesting lager to say the least but anyone trying this first think to yourselves: The Lost Abbey is doing what they call a "rustic Farmhouse lager" and if you know the brewer well enough with what they normally do then you probably won't be as surprised with this when you partake and think "light lager" because it's your normal "light lager."

Aroma: dark fruits and noticeable dark cherries; white grapes, light leather, some vinous, light tart and sour character, earthy vibes, light Bretty tones
Flavor: meshes the prior noted aromas to a fine sour and tart character up front; finishes very vinous with some earthy and Bretty sour character
Texture: medium bodied, this is a sipper!; the tart and sour levels do act fairly aggressive to the tongue, I mean not total annihilation but it's very noticeable
Overall: in my opinion, I'd say a very nicely done Flemish red I would return to as a great ender for an evening.
