Bottle shared by Styles. Murky toffee/caramel sediment-laden body, medium cream head. Caramely aroma with pineapple and oak notes. Tart, funky body, with oak and caramel, toast, and spice. Some sharp dark fruits. Spicy and bready. Oak and tart notes dominate the flavor profile. Medium-bodied. Not stellar but still good.

Hazy dull beige. Thick head. Yeasty, duponty nose. Very yeasty. Some dust, malt-accented. Not especially mindblowing, didn’t capture my imagination.

2007 vintage consumed Oct ’08. Pours murky brown with garnet edges and thin near mocha head. The moderate aroma brings smooth oakiness to the fore followed by musty dark fruity esters of figs, dates and some building yet in check alcohol heat on a big draw. The taste is a pleasing mix of dark fruity esters of muted dark grapes, figs, prunes and dates to go along with smooth oakiness and a ribbon of caramel. Yum, smooth blended and stunningly good. Throughout there’s a river of mild brandy notes.

Tapped right out of the cask into serving vessels and then into my glass at the Lost Abbey Barrel Tasting event 8/25/07. This was the standard offering. Pours dark brown and not at all see through. The aroma is fruity with plums, dates, raisins and a hint of olives and wood. The first impression of the taste is the sweetness just comes up and hits with sweet fruits like raisins, dates, prunes and olives. A sweet wood to vanilla note grows toward the finish. There’s a twist of sweet citrus hard candy and an unmistakable Belgian yeast notes. The hard alcohol seems to shine through from the barrel aging and adds to some of the dryness.

Tapped right out of the cask into serving vessels and then into my glass at the Lost Abbey Barrel Tasting event 8/25/07. This was the previously unreleased version with 18 months of age in Brandy Barrels. Pours a dark dark coffee like brown color that is much darker than the standard Angle’s Share. The aroma is wood oakiness and hints of booze. It is tough to discern the other mixture of notes in the nose. The complexity can be broken up into subtle fruity notes that are blended well enough that their tough to distinguish. The flavor has suitable levels of both oak and booze as well as undercurrents of sweet dark fruit. Toward the finish a nice caramel note wells up to further complex the flavor. Very nice indeed and ends somewhat dry.

Hazy beige. Aroma of apple, some peach, light perfume. Very yeasty, with an astringent dustiness but that fades amidst bright florals and leafy hops. That character carries through the beer. Yeah, not the best notes but I was enjoying the beer and my friends.

750 ml. bottle from Zinister, shared at the 12/7 tasting at Indra’s. Pour is caramel brown with a tan head that fades immediately. Aroma of dried fruit (primarily raisins) and Belgian yeastiness. Taste is a nice solid maltiness with raisins throughout. As it warms, the Belgian yeast flavor takes center stage. Nice full body, and extremely well balanced.

Bottle graciously shared by jjpm74, too kind. The bottle pours very thick looking, such a dense beer, cannot see through it at all. I don’t know what it is but there are little black specks that settle at the bottom of the glass. I was also highly surprised this was a yellow/golden beer, just always imagined this to be a red hued brew. There is a minimal head that quickly fades into nothing. Aroma is light sour with peaches and faint strawberry. Light sour, light fruit but thick and pasty. Tastes is lightly acidic, faintly sour with a white grape/doughy sweetness. Just leave an extremely faint acidity on the cheeks. A medium heavy body that is felt on the cheeks. Its a nice beer, not nearly as sour as I would want it to be. Maybe time will bring out some more sourness and dry it out a bit.
750mL cork and cage, Cantillon small rounded wine glass.

Almost a year old, shared by mreusch. Pretty much the same, lasting well, thats worth something, I’ll raise the overall score a bit.

Bottled. Citruspeel and flowery aroma. Cloudy yellow, creamy head. Nice orangezest notes, background bubblegum and vanilla - quite harmonic. Medium sparkly mouthfeel. Nice citrus aftertaste.

Noogfest Thanks to Shp555 for bringing this one to share. Pours muddy brown with a tan head. The aroma is sour, fruity and malt based. Sweet fruity start, dry finish. A bit thin bodied. A touch more complexity would make this a standout.

Bottle. Blackishh beer with a tan head. Brandy, malt, vanilla aroma. Big dark malt, chocolate, caramel, brandy, vanilla flavor that just all comes together very nicely. Good complexity. Rich full body. Alcohol gives a nice warming affect without seeming too high. Flavors linger with a bit of fruit added.
