Description
Lagabière was born in November 2012. Brothers Sébastien and Francis Laganière opened the doors of their brewery in the heart of Old St. Jean, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Initially offering only one of their beers and a few beers, the inventory has grown rapidly, offering only locally brewed products. With a capacity of 20 beers in service, the offer is very diversified. Each recipe is original and brewed with extreme rigor. Today, after more than sixty original recipes created, Lagabière also offers a range of imported beers, quality alcohols and a homemade food menu, incorporating as much beer as possible.

Tap at Hopa. Deep, hazy golden pour, white head. Nose is sweet notes of tropical fruits and tutti frutti. Taste is sweet upfront, fruity and a bit floral, then a touch of bitterness appears but afterwards it all takes an overwhelmingly sweet turn, showing candy-like, artificial-reminicent notes. Closes with long lasting sweet finish, has light to medium body and soft carbonation. Way too sweet altogether.

This stout poured a deep black colour with a creamy, brown head. Minimal lacing. Scents include coffee, roasted oats and smoke. First swig was pretty good with flavours of roasted malt, black coffee, cocoa and a little caramel. Finish is burnt, delicious and smokey.

This red poured a hazy deep amber colour with a huge, heavy carbonated, off white head. Minimal lacing. Scents include caramel, medium toast and a little cardboard. First swig was pretty weak. Flavours of caramel, ripe fruit and cloves. Finish is minimal and watery with a little caramel and clove lingering.

Smells of musty grains, wet paper and sulphur. Mouth feel is watery, carb is dull. Finish is sickly sweet, musty, and pungent. This is awful.

Very herbal Aroma, lots of bog myrtle and basil. With hints of zest and spice. Soft lemon zest and pepper. Hints of pine resin, and green hop pellets. Sharp finish, medium bitterness, dry, herbal end. Interesting.

On tap at Le Trefle Noire in Rouyn-Noranda. Slightly hazy orange pour, with a fluffy white head. Aroma is quite acidic, and loaded with mango and peaches. Hints of candied citrus zest and some grasses. Mouth feel is surprisingly watery, but the carb is OK. Wow... This very thin mouth feel is confusing. The finish is medium bitter, approaching highly bitter as it lingers. Lots of candied citrus zest with more mango, and stone fruit. A really nice ipa.

Can from Beer Republic. At 3.5% abv. Aroma is sour lemon with lemon juice, very light pale malt, lemon peel. Flavour is tart and light sour with a dry finish. Body is light. Hmmm okay, mostly just tart lemon with a light body, refreshing.

355ml can. Pours a clear blonde with a large, frothy, long lasting, white head that leaves soapy curtains of lace. Aroma of Belgian yeast, pale malt and floral hops. Sweet flavour of pale malt, orange peel, Belgian yeast and spicy hops in a dry, bitter finish. Light to medium body with a slick texture and average carbonation. Pleasant, but nothing special.

Very pale gold with soapy fizzy white foam and a lemony aroma. Ultra light bodied and crisp. Considering no one knows how long this has been sitting on the dining room floor it’s surprisingly solid. My Dad really enjoyed it.
