Can. A dark golden beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of straw, and so is the flavor. The body is light. OK for a light beer - but I rather have a stronger Budvar.

Can, 4%. Caramelly malt flavour, not sweet. Clear golden colour. Not thin, but fades a bit way in the finish, when the bitterness kicks in, though.

50 cL can. Pours clear and golden yellow with a fully gone head. Light citric and mild butterish aroma. Mild breadish and malty base flavour with a light bitterness coming through. Medium dry malty finish.

Draught, 5% at GBBF08. Clear golden colour, small white head. Bready flavour, a little soapy. Good mouthfeel. Probably not the right thing to drink after a lambiek. 6 3 6 3 13
Draught in Ústí nad Labem. Mild spicy hop aroma. Almost clear golden colour. Good stable white head. The flavour is nicely spicy like the aroma, but also a little watery. Nice and drinkable, though. 6 3 6 3 15

500ml bottle at home, courtesy of Finn.
Pours a tight, beige head over a deep, rosewood body. Satisfying aroma of roasted malt. Plenty of roastiness in flavour backed by the sweetness of cocoa and some gentle bitterness to a rather short ending. Flat carbonation and medium bodied (07.09.2008).

Bottled(500ml). -Golden coloured, medium sized white head, dusty grainy nose. Weak malty, bitterish hoppy and slight grainy taste with notes of butter and cardboard. Watery palate, moderate bitter finish.

Bottle. Quite a good-looking beer of dark brown color with a big beige head that diminishes slowly. Aroma of some roasted malt, caramel and coffee notes. Sweet flavor with nice maltiness, caramel, some roastiness and some dark bread and coffee notes. A lingering drier finish, quite bitter, with light Saaz hoppiness. Medium-bodied, but could use a bit more body. A good Dunkel, I enjoyed this one almost as much as I enjoy the regular Budvar.

Re-rating. Bottle served daily at beach cafes in Kotor, Montenegro. Believe place and occasion might influence a rating, but finding this as more then less the only alternative to golden lagers I learned to appreciate a black lager. I actually had one alternative, but the Budweiser version was superior to the other one. Clear dark amber body with a nice, dense beige head. Aroma is mild toasted, dark malt, some liquorice, hint of coffee and some dark chocolate. Smooth flavor with the same ingredients that found in aroma, medium sweet and mild roasted. Medium body and OK aftertaste. A smooth, balanced and very drinkable dark lager.
