Bottled, from LCBO, Ottawa. Dark brown, small head. Aroma of molasses and caramel. Very sweet with full body and rounded, sticky mouthfeel. Grainy with aniseed, sake and molasses, brown sugar and caramel. Peppery finish with evident alcohol. Bold and brash. Disharmonious.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry raisins and candi sugar with some caramelized malt is enjoyable. Taste is also a good mix of candi sugar, dry fruits and caramelized sugar notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol notes. Enjoyable but lacking some of the depth that the staple of this style have.

Pours a deep copper colour with some ruby-amber highlights The head is mocha coloured with decent retention, minimal lacing. Dark fruit aromas with some chocolate malts. Also notes of maple syrup in the nose, as well as in the flavours. Hints of grassy hops, nuttiness. Again, dark fruits. Not your Belgian complexe Quad, but a good one nonetheless.

Keg at Ottawa Winter Brewfest. Disclaimer: This even used plastic cups. This may have prevented my ability to fully appreciate this beer. Hazy pale golden, small head. Lemony nose with citrus and tropical fruit. Mild milky and lemony acid, light-medium body and clean, crisp mouthfeel. Mid bitter finish.

This one poured a deep black colour with a light tan coloured head. Nice lacing. Scents include very ripe fruit, very mild vinegar and light alcohol. First swig was velvety smooth with flavours of ripe fruit and rich malts. Finish was thick with an almost wine flavour and malty goodness lingering. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with a large foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of light dry caramel malt with some fruity ester. Taste is a mix of residuals sugar with light caramelized malt and some fruity ester. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad but doesn’t really stand out.

500mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted malt and a touch of licorice, with low residual sweetness. Flavour is along the same lines, with light toasted malt, a touch of licorice, and very faint coffee. Pretty light, without much character. Rather lame, but inoffensive.
