16oz (thx, Gerry C.) shared with George on the front yard. Appearance: hazy blonde with a white head. Aroma: floral, a bit of spices, malty. Taste: along the same lines, quite harsh. Overall: no good balance in here.

Bottle, purchased at the brewery. Dark brown, with a fairly large head. Rich dark fruity aroma with lots of chocolate and a fair bit of bourbon as well. But the base beer smells like a legit foreign stout. Rich fruity, chocolatey, full bodied. Subtle bourbon lends sweetness and rounded vanilla notes. Just a hint of alcohol late. Fuller and richer than what FES is these days. Honestly, this is impressive. Nailing the base beer, hitting a great balance with the treatment. I'd score this one really well at a pro judging. Excellent.

Hazy, blonde, thin head. A little phenolic on the nose, but within style, black pepper and pale malt. Off-dry, decent balance, touch phenolic. Not half bad.

Medium brown, bright. Not much head. Doesn’t look Baltic and there’s not enough alcohol anyway. Aroma comes across as thin and toasty, neither or which have anything to do with Baltic porter. Medium body but thick, gloppy, chocolate syrup. Ok so setting aside the fact that this beer has nothing in common with the Baltic porter style, it’s not all that accomplished as a porter. So I’m not into it.

Light amber, bit of chill haze, thin head. Quite sticky. Some decent biscuity malt notes underneath that wall of sugar, I assume the result of the bag of Weyermann Vienna malt I’m looking at. But different yeast, more hop, and going all-in on the Weyermann would make for a much, much better Vienna.

Amber, nice colour, just a thin head. Sticky, a bit toasty, light biscuit. But again, wrong yeast for these lagers, or not decoction...just underattenuated and needing help.

Sweet, sticky. No liquid bread tho. Just vague, underattenuated pale malts, without sufficient balance - both hops and minerals typically provide this balance in Bavaria, where all the best maibocks are made.
