Bottle picked up from Eebria/Direct from brewery consumed at home Sunday 12th November 2017 having just cooking Lamb, Tomato and Anchovy Casserole with Cumin Aubergines whilst listening to Snapped Ankles. Pours reddy amber with a white head, quite a large head in fact. Tangy fruit and caramel combination, a little alcohol lift, hops seem a little earthy and robust but carry a little bitterness. Fine. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov13 3.3

Bottle from Eebria, Direct from the brewery consumed at home Sunday 5th November 2017 whilst cooking Cottage Pie with a Cauliflower Cheese topping and Loz makes Fig, Raspberry, Hazlenut and Honey Cake. Rich and sweet, honey shows, but punchy and warming there is also quite a hoppy hit. There is a lot of woody elements here, citrus, notably marmalade in fact lots of marmalade. Fruity lots of fruitiness, this is a good beer. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 3.9

Unclear, dark brown, medium creamy beige head. Aroma is of malt, some caramel, toffee, nutty, some fruits notes, some chocolate, bit herbal hops. Taste is medium sweet malt, caramel, toffee, nuts, bit fruity, brown sugar, bit of chocolate, medium bitterness, some herbal hops. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, bit creamy. OK, but not amazing. Bottle from Eebria, consumed at home Friday 20th October 2017 whilst cooking a Chicken Chasni from the Curry Guy cookbook. Looks great on the pour lively with a big white head. Quite potent at first and you sort of feel that the alcohol is driving this, however take a sip, take your time and it becomes an altogether different beast. Soft mouthfeel, boozy fruitiness, good and enjoyed this though not totally my thing. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4

2014 bottle, many thanks to cgarvieuk for this one! Beautiful pitch black color with a large creamy beige head. Aroma is burnt wood, burnt sugar, vanilla, a touch ash, espresso, roasted, molasses, coconut, leathery, soy sauce, a bit of peat smoke even. Taste is sweet vanilla, soy sauce, meaty, berry jam, leathery, vanilla ice cream, chocolate, prunes, again a bit of peat smoke. Thick oily mouthfeel with low carbonation and a huge vanilla and burnt wood finish that is just a tiny bit too sweet for me, even considering the character of the beer. Much sweeter than the regular version, the oak character in this one is really unique, to the point that it almost gets confusing. Different than expected, but surely a fantastic beer.Vertical of 2008, 2011, 2014, 2016 at cgarvieuk's place in March 2019, many thanks! 2008: Super rich, oily, vanilla, coconut, well-balanced. Very oaky, very rich. 2011: Aroma is more tobacco and leather, earthy, a touch more soy sauce too though. A bit below the 2008. 2014: Just like I remember it, more tobacco, leather and ash in aroma than 2008, but keeps the oaky vanilla character of it. Lovely! 2016: More fudge and very sweet, maybe a bit too sweet for me.

Bottle, Lot 932, BBE 8/2017, many thanks to cgarvieuk for this one! Pitch black color with a rather large-bubbled beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, thick molten black chocolate, burnt sugar, molasses, plums, chocolate brownies. Taste is roasted malts, again brownies, burnt sugar, thick black chocolate, some liquorice, some vanilla, quite some sweetness, a touch prune/plums as well, including tartness, but the roastedness and earthyness keeps the sweetness in balance; earthy-leathery bitterness in the finish. Medium carbonation to support the richness. A rich, rather classic non-adjunct Imperial Stout with a lot of complexity. Amazing! Bottle, Lot 265, BBE 04.2020. Just a great classic Imperial Stout, as expected, a bit drier than last time.

33cl bottle pours a murky black with some brown head. Nose has malt, toast, dark fruits, cola, molasses, marzipan. Flavor is port, cherry, raisin, molasses, toast, chocolate, coffee. Finishes full bodied and sticky.

Bottle from Beautiful Beer, Bury-St-Edmunds. Spicey, fruity aroma over the top, with a waft of chocolate. And a boozy hit. Dark, glossy, almost muddy. Thick frothy dark beige head. Light bitter with a creamy edge at first. A boozy bitter kick appears into the finish. Thick bodied. Creamy. Sticky. Low key carbonation. Long, astringent finish. The alcohol makes itself known. A beer two halves: understated at first, then the raw 9.6% takes effect. Found the latter off-putting at first, before I aclimatised.

Bottle shared at Chris & Ruth´s House. 2009 Version. A black beer with a small most good lasting tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malt, vanilla, toffee, rich chocolate, coffee. Taste of dark roasted malt, toffee, vanilla, wood, some red fruits, coffee, delicious!
