Description
Old Chimneys Brewery was started in 1995 by Alan Thomson, a Master Brewer who celebrated 40 years of brewing in 2017.
Located in Market Weston on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, Old Chimneys has achieved an enviable reputation for beer quality. The flagship brand,
Good King Henry Special Reserve, has for 8 years been the highest rated English beer on ratebeer.com
Alan ceased brewing at Market Weston in April 2019 to concentrate on collaborative brewing with top quality brewers in the UK and abroad,
starting with Grain (Norfolk), Northern Monk (Leeds) and Wylam (Newcastle).
The regular Good King Henry is now brewed under Alan’s supervision at Grain Brewery. The strength has been increased to 10% abv, and for the first time in 20 years it is available in KeyKeg as well as cask.
Changed to a client brewer as of 2019 on Brewver as Alan continues to brew elsewhere with the Old Chimneys name, mostly at Grain Brewery.

Bottle, 6.2%. Spicy and slightly sweet aroma. Hazy dark red colour. Good malty flavour, some alcohol to balance, but not rough. Slightly sweet and spicy.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. It presents a clear, orange-golden body under a beige head. Weak and boring aroma with some fruits and caramel pulling the load. Slightly peachy and citrusy flavor with a malty sweetness base. Medium body. Sure, it’s a drinkable beer without off-flavers, but it’s utterly boring. (080823)

Bottle, shared by fonefan. A clear, golden pour leaves a small beige head. Weak on the nose, and rather boring too, with fruityness and caramel sweetness. Sweet, fruity and malty flavor, with some caramel and bitterness. Medium body with nice carbonation, and a fruity finish. Boring, but at least easy to drink. (080823)

Bottle, thx to fonefan. A clear, golden beer with an off-white head. Orange-fruity nose with some caramel. Piney and resiny hop-flavor initially, then followed by a balancing sweetness, leading to a good bitterness. Medium body. Bitter, piney finish. Quite boring considering the brewery saying it’s an IPA, but with good drinkability and a good bitterness. (080823)

Bottle, thx to fonefan. A clear, almost golden beer with a decent off-white head. Weak nose with fruits and grains. Fruity and grainy flavor too, with some tropical fruits and a fine bitterness. Medium body and good carbonation. Nice bitterness in the finish. A well-tasting beer, but rather boring, therefore the low score. (080823)

Bottle 275ml @ home. [ My UK Beer # 1000 ][ Courtesy of Mes_and_Sim ]. [ Vintage 2005 ]. Clear dark black color with a large, creamy, excellent lacing, fully lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, burnt, chocolate, dark berry - forest berry, cigar - tobaco, wood, oak, light alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration. Body is full, texture is oily - syrupy - creamy - smooth, carbonation is soft - flat. Plain and very very complex and very easy to drink ... give me more ;o)) (020708)

Bottle, 4.5%. Quite creamy aroma, probably also roasted. The flavour has as much creaminess, but there is also some acidity from the malt. Gets very sour after some sips.
