Description
Old Chimneys Brewery was started in 1995 by Alan Thomson, a Master Brewer who celebrated 40 years of brewing in 2017.
Located in Market Weston on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, Old Chimneys has achieved an enviable reputation for beer quality. The flagship brand,
Good King Henry Special Reserve, has for 8 years been the highest rated English beer on ratebeer.com
Alan ceased brewing at Market Weston in April 2019 to concentrate on collaborative brewing with top quality brewers in the UK and abroad,
starting with Grain (Norfolk), Northern Monk (Leeds) and Wylam (Newcastle).
The regular Good King Henry is now brewed under Alan’s supervision at Grain Brewery. The strength has been increased to 10% abv, and for the first time in 20 years it is available in KeyKeg as well as cask.
Changed to a client brewer as of 2019 on Brewver as Alan continues to brew elsewhere with the Old Chimneys name, mostly at Grain Brewery.

Bottle, 8.7%. Weak malt syrup aroma. Clear chestnut colour, very small tan head. The flavour is quite sweet with distinct notes of malt syrup. OK balanced by the alcohol. Good alcohol burn in the finish.

Re-rate 11/3/08: Bottle sample at a tasting in Pizza Port in Carlsbad (thanks hapjydeuce). Aroma of brett, some roasted malt and dark fruit notes. Sourish flavor with some brett, roasted malt, wood notes, chocolate hints and some fruitiness. Medium to full-bodied. Definitely infected, but I still really like it that way! 8/4/7/4/15=3.8
(6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Black color with a brown head. A quite burnt aroma with some dark chocolate and hints of alcohol. Very sweet roasted flavor with chocolate and some caramel. Very full-bodied with a thick mouthfeel. 8/4/8/5/16=4.1

Bottled. Deep amber colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, hops, some acidicness and mild chocolatey notes. Flavour is quite much the same, but has some smoked sour wooden notes to it. Bigtime roast in the aftertaste.

Bottle at Chris_o Pre GBBF Shindig 08. It’s black and it’s not made of rats. Actually pretty good. A little light in the mouth but pleasant enough to drink more of.
