(Bottle 27,5 cl) Courtesy of madsberg/Chris o. Vintage 2002. Pours completely opaque black with a light brown head. Aroma of raisins and bourbon - or oak rather. Quite full-bodied with loads and loads of roasted malt, dried and overripe fruit accents. Again some oak and vanilla appears in the flavour. The bitterness is very subdued. A very satisfying brew. 270607

Thanks to Chris_O for bringing one of the highlights of RBSG 07. This is an excellent beer. This is a thick and heavy beer. It pours like syrup from the bottle, black and nearly still. The aroma is complex and has port, wine, soysauce, and lightly roasted malt as well as chocolate. Flavor is sweet malt, very light smoke. More wine, sugar, cherry. It could hardly be better on the palate. One of the world’s best beers. Comparable to Harvey’s, but better.

RBSG07. From 33 cL bottle (2002 version). Aroma with barrel notes and dried raisins. Very dry and slight acidic going very dark roasted malty into the finish.
Bottle from Phil_L, cheers mate! Lovely roasted aroma yet with a slight burning alcohol note. Solid roasted malt flavour with a nice smoothness of chocolate. Lovely liqourice bite. Ends warming alcohol flavoured and acidic roasted malt. Lovely

275ml 2002 bottle at Pig’s Ear. Black in colour with thin tan head. Impy stout aroma, raisins, liquorice, very raisiny, bit like a fortified Muscat. Brown sugar. Dryish finish. Pretty good, but a bit cloying.

Bottle conditioned, 500 ml, bought at Memorable Cheeses, Ipswich. Dark copper coloured, hazy (poured the yeast in). Low head, moderate natural carbonation. Moderate malty aroma, hints of caramel, spices and camphor. Flavour is well balanced, malty and a bit spicy, but has a substantial hoppy bitterness in the finish. Very good.

Cask at the Ipswich Beer Festival 2004, gravity dispense. Aroma is very malty with notes of oak. Flavour is malty and rather boring.

A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is smoked and roasted with hints of sourness. The flavor is very rounded sweet with notes of coffee and roasted malt and it has a good palate.

Jet black; virtually no head, just brown rim. Nose gives ink, wild mushrooms, dark chocolate, apple. Taste is dominated by burnt malts, but main taste is quite sweet all the same. Fruity flavours as blueberries. Retronasal more bitter than before. Syrupy mouthfeel, very well 'filled' beer. Aftertaste comes up with cigarette ashes and brambles. good stout. Just a bit less than Imperial in the way Harveys or the Americans do it.
