Kenya’s national standard lager, referring to the African elephant. From a 50 cl bottle, with slight gushing upon opening - must be the first time I experience this in a filtered lager. Creamy, medium sized, off-white head leaving some lacing, crowning a pure and clear golden beer with steady fizz. Sweetish, grainy aroma of dry cookies, white bread dough, soaked corn, wet cloth, iron, something vaguely plastic-like and a grassy hop touch without actually smelling of hops. Grainy, straightforward flavour, soft but finely stinging carbo, sweetish and sourish grains with a slick, lightly oily mouthfeel, corny sweetishness, metallic, with persisting grain sweetishness in the finish adorned with a light grassy hop touch, very lightly bittering but otherwise rather thin and a bit watery, as usual in this style. Another boring and industrial pale lager, but admittedly very drinkable, more so than I expected.

(Bottle) Clear straw with transient white head. Aroma is cardboard with hints of grass and toffee. Light body and lively fizzy in a coarse but exciting way. Taste is better than aroma suggests. There’s some pleasant toffee / candy sweetness under a nice fresh tangy flavour. It’s a little odd but quite well balanced. By the mid palate there some biscuity malt and some fairly pleasant hints of crisp bitterness in finish. I expect this would go down well in a hot dry climate. It’s not great but it’s drinkable.

Pitch black almost opaque, strong and lasting dark tan head and nice lacing. Aroma is of chocolate and overroasted malt, charcoal. Taste is low on sweetness, caramel, malt, bit of choco, bit of licorice and mostly roasted malts with a very dry charcoal bitter finish. Medium bodied. While this is very decent in Africa and without much competition I don’t think it would do well against European or American stouts. 0,33 Bottle in Rwanda, from Kenya.

Golden colored, weak white head. Aroma of malts and grain, some grassy hops. Taste moderate sweet malts, grains, straw and hay. Low on bitterness. No adjuncts though. Light bodied. Not good but much better than the "normal" Tusker.

Pale yellow colored, small white head. Aroma of some malts, grain. Taste is rather thin on malts and corn, some hay, some sourness, almost no bitterness. Thin, watery body. Wow, couldn’t imagine choosing Primus over another beer but there it is!

Bottle at the Cotteridge Convention thanks to SarkyNortherner. It pours clear gold with a small white head. The nose is muted, watery, paper, grainy and sweet dough. The taste is crisp, paper, light graininess, sweet dough and cereal with a short finish. Lightish body and fine carbonation. Mmmm paper... Pretty basic.
