Bottle: Poured a nice copper color ale with a medium size foamy head with light retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt is not as complex or enticing as I was expecting. Taste is also dominated by dry caramel malt with not much character. Body is lighter than style would suggest with OK carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very disappointed to not find the richness I was expecting from the style.

Saw this or the year before in Bieres du Monde in an overpriced bottle and glad I wasn’t fooled - not worth the hype or fanfare. Pours orange with good head and lacing. Smells lightly like Jagermeister herbs and maybe ginger or cinnamon or something. Light sweet finish. Soft carbonation, slick texture. A lot of booze in aftertaste. Tap at Bistro L’Autre Oeil.

Évaluation no. 53 Janvier 2011. Aucun nez perçu. De couleur brune. La mousse disparait presque instantanément. L’attaque est puissante et alcoolisée mais pas désagréable. Fortement caramélisée. On sent bien la liqueur de bourbon. Riche et onctueuse. Les sucres sont très présents. La finale est magnifique et complexe. Presque une liqueur de malt. Devrait avoir un bon potentiel de vieillissement.

Dégustée et évaluée en mai 2010. De couleur blanche, brouillée, la mousse à grosses bulles a une faible persistance. Nez très agrume,très présent. En bouche, c’est une explosion d’agrumes et de gingembre. On ne goute presque plus à la bière. Les agrumes et le gingembre prennent toute la place. Elle présente tout de même un certain intérêt.

Arôme: Riche mélange d’alcool de caramel, de raisin secs, de toffee, de mélasse. Arôme typiquement malté. Bonne puissance. Ma conjointe a eu des notes de houblon au nez; pas moi. Visuel: Ambrée foncée / brune, floue mais très effervescente, avec une mousse crémeuse, dense, qui tiens presque 5 minutes. Elle colle avec tendresse au verre en laissant une dentelle fabuleuse. Gustatif: L’attaque se fait de façon métallique avec des notes très houblonnées. Des notes herbacées de houblons puissants. des notes de conifère, de zeste d’orange. La preuve qu’un vin d’orge peut s’éparpiller dans toutes les directions gustatives. Celui-ci se perd dans les houblons. C’eut été un excellent vin d’orge n’eut été de son manque d.équilibre. Trop houblonné pour l’apport en sucre à mon avis.

Dégustée et commentée en Mai 2010. De couleur brune rougeâtre, elle laisse une mousse d’épaisseur moyenne assez persistante. Rien de bien particulier au nez. En bouche le malt est présent avec des accents de mélasse. Douce, sans amertume. Se boit bien.

Bottle: Poured a deep golden color ale with a medium foamy head with light retention. Aroma of Rooibos tea is quite dominant with light unrefined grainy notes also perceptible. Taste is a weird mix between the some unrefined wheat malt notes and some Rooibos tea with a light astringent finish. Body is light with good carbonation. This mix between tea and beer is not the easiest to put together and I must admit that this si not a case were the experiment was successful.

Strange, but not bad. Pours pitch black with mocha head and lacing. Aroma of anise, some roast malt and some booze. Finishes with that note of bitter absinthe herb. Thick consistency. Tap at Gainsbourg.
