Location: Sampled at the NY Brewfest on Governor's Island, 6/19/10

Aroma: Fairly solid pine front hop nose, some citrus notes, and some earth
Appearance: The pour is an amber color with an off-white head
Flavor: This beer's flavor leans toward the bitter side with just a bit of sweetness for balance
Palate: The body is medium, with a long, lingering sticky-resin finish
Overall Impression: I liked this beer a lot. A very solid IPA from another small brewery that I got to try for the first time at Brewfest. The state of NY seems to be pretty well represented with these solid little breweries that can brew a pretty solid beer.

Tap at Bobbique, Patchogue, NY - more like a stout, considering how robust it is - very full and creamy - sweet notes of chocolate and strongly sweetened coffee make way for a much more dry character through the middle and finish - cocoa - an intense bitterness from black malt and hops arrives late, as does strong roastiness, both of which become a little too strong on the tail end, but otherwise this is really solid.

Tap at Barcade. Pours a transparent, deep ruby. No head. Light malt aroma, some plum and fig. Flavor is light as well, more dark fruit, some mild syrup and toffee. Pretty sweet. Medium in body, light carbonation, alcohol presence is minimal. Overall it’s perfectly drinkable but I would say a little light for the style. Perhaps the most sessionable barleywine I’ve ever had.

64oz growler sampled at the DC Local tasting. Pours a watery opaque black with a clumpy, beige head. Nice toasty, bready aroma, nuts, dark malts. Flavor is sweet, brown sugar, malts, toasted bread, light chocolate, lightly nutty, light coffee. Finish is medium bodied, sweet, with a little coffee bitterness. A really solid, session porter.

Growler courtesy of Andy, kick-off beer at the DC local tasting - thank you sir! Dark brown, edge head. Aroma of chocolate with a bit of smoke. Taste is chocolate and burnt coffee. Decent stuff.

Draft at Barcade. Not an outstanding beer but definitely solid and right where a porter should be. Pours Dark brown with a modest off-white head. Some burnt malts in the nose but not too roasty. Flavor holds moderate sweetness, some roast, mild dryness in the tail. Medium body. I would drink again.

Sampled on tap at the brewery. Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin, creamy white head. Aroma is very IPA, citrus, pine, flower but nothing over the top. The flavor is more of the same, limey, lightly metallic. Finish is medium bodied, lasting bitterness. Not sure if they tried to put a different spin on the standard IPA or if they missed the mark.

Sampled on tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy, transparent yellow, amber with a frothy, lacing white head. The big, amarillo, citrus aroma draws you in with a little perfume and some light sweetness. The nose is very inviting. The flavor is very well balanced, sweet malts, oranges, lemons, grains, hay, perfume. The finish is full bodied and lightly sweet. A definite session beer. The hops may be a bit aggressive to make this an introductory beer but this is a great flagship recipe.

Sampled the original batch at the brewery. FYI, they are ditching this recipe and taking their KABAMarillo and making it the new Harbor Ale. I am rating the original recipe. Pours a transparent orange amber with a thin white head. Aroma is lightly sweet, light flowers. Flavor is sweet, a touch of citrus, a little pale malt. Finish is watery. Glad their making the switch in recipes, this was forgettable.
