Description
La brasserie artisanale Saint-Monon est une entreprise familiale née en 1996, située à Ambly, à la limite de l’Ardenne et de la Famenne.

Saint-Monon beer was born in 1996 in the heart of the Famenne, land of brigandage and legends located at the gateway to the Belgian Ardennes. This beverage straight out of the imagination of the youngest Walloon brewer in, Pierre Jacob, quickly acquired its letters of nobility.

Pierre Jacob is an industrial engineer in the food industry. Nature, he works with and he respects it. His farm is 100% self-sufficient in electricity, the filtration residues from his beers are converted into food for the village animals, organic waste is composted, he works with recycled paper and cardboard boxes.

Commissioned "bière de Hotton", bought at Le Pré Vert in Bastogne. Very violent gusher, spouting out of the bottle upon opening. Thick cobweb-lacing, greyish white, irregular head over a cloudy - and eventually murky - bronze-ish deep amber coloured beer. Aroma has strong spiciness of all sorts, hints of curcuma, sweet red curry, liquorish, ras al hanout, dried apricot, pomegranate, fried egg, earth, coriander seed, vague dried mint. Fruity sweetish onset, apricot, dry banana, fig, sourish berry-like touch bringing balance, medium carbo, bready and honeyish malt sweetness upon which the sweet, aromatic spiciness is built growing stronger towards the end, a bit soapy (coriander?), phenolic and liquorish-like, earthy hop bitterish accent. Typical ’overdrive spiciness’ which I’ve encountered in other Saint-Monons, and the heavy gushing did not help in my appreciation of this.

330 ml. bottle sampled / shared with philus & kraddel. Hazy golden ,creamy white head. Nose is massive sweet soap, excessively candy, sweetness & soap like ginger in a bad way. Taste is plaster, dough, ginger, excessive sweet spices, soap, ginger, bad artificial, dough, extremely sweet, chemical soap, yeast. Yeast & soap, body excessive sweetness. This is really excessive, way too much, if I remember ingredients don’t even list spices, is this the yeast? What gives, not a fan, fun label ‘though.
