Draft at BeerHeadZ, Lincoln. Black colour with a tan head. Aroma and taste are roasted malty, slight smoke, and hints of sweet fruit. Smooth medium body.

Handpull cask at the Midland, Bearwood, Birmingham. Brownish red, clear with a small off-white head offering a lot of lacing. Fresh malty aroma, slightly spicy. Taste is intense from the Rye, not too sweet with notes of red berry. Notes of white pepper in the long finish. I think the low rates are a bit unfair. This is a pretty good beer.

Keg draught at the Plough, Harborne, Birmingham. Very light yellow gold, a little bit of haze, some loose white head. Light aroma, some citrus hop, some energy drink. Sweet taste, a little hoppy, some bitterness on the finish. Watery body, medium carbonation. Sounds like I am damning with faint praise but for a low alcohol beer it's quite good. And welcome for midday.

440ml can from the brewery taproom. Poured a clear dark amber colour with a short-lived, frothy white head. The aroma is sugary malt. The flavour is moderate to light sweet, light bitter, with a smooth, earthy, light herbal, nutty, toffee caramel palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation. Not a mild in my book, but very tasty and a fitting tribute.

Can from Vine & Bine, near Solihull. Pours a copper brown with small off white head. It is nutty with semi-roasted malt, somewhat earthy, grainy and sweet. A tangy jammy fruit note with some booze and bitterness in the finish.

Cask at Head of Steam, Birmingham. Crystal clear light gold with smooth white top. This one had tangy stone fruit, lychee, minerals. Light to medium bodied, slick, semi-drying. Easy drinking but didn't stand out.

Cask at The Wellington, Birmingham. Hazy yellow-straw pour with white top. It's light and refreshing with a lemon, passionfruit, mineral and light pine. Light to mid-bodied with fine carbonation. It's ok if a bit forgettable.

Cask at Cherry Reds, Birmingham. Dark brown pour with small off white head. This one has a toasty rye, medicine, sour fruity berry/yeast note, citrus zest, light spice. Light to medium bodied, semi-drying. Oddly rich yet light sour. It doesn't quite work but its something a bit different and interesting flavours going on.

Can from Hop Vault, Stourbridge, online. Pours a light cloudy gold with small white head, decent retention. Aroma of citrus, passionfruit, pineapple. Taste is light soft malt with citrus and light tropical notes. Light bodied, easy to drink table beer.

Can from Connolly's Wine Merchants. Dark orange pour with small but lasting white top. Aroma of tart raspberries, peach, grains. Taste is tart and sweet with watermelon, raspberry, peach, pale malts; oddly pineapple isn't coming through that strongly. Smooth mouthfeel. Has just the right amount of adjunct, not too artificial here. A very pleasant fruity sour.
