Steeped in the unique culture and history of Tampa, Florida, Cigar City Brewing began handcrafting award-winning beer in 2009. Cigar City Brewing’s ales and lagers bring to mind the sun and citrus for which Florida is known, while taking cues from the cigar industry upon which Tampa was built. Sampled at the Boise tasting 1/16/10, thanks to Eric
Appearance: Pours black with a small dark tan head
Aroma: Cedar, roasted malts, coffee, chocolate
Taste: Strong cedar at first, then roasted malts, dark fruits and chocolate
I was looking forward to tasting this beer with the cedar. I think that the cedar was a little to strong for me. But, I could just imagine how great it would taste while smoking a nice cigar.

I liked this version better than the Humidor (cedar) series.

Bottled. Orange color. Tropical fruit, citrus and soap in both aroma and flavor. A slight tartness. Guave juice, pineapple. Pleasant, but not world shocking brew. Sticky mouthfeel.

Bottle 314/480 thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours with a fading tan head over a hazy amber body. Aroma of earth, chocolate, beets, pepper, alcohol and tobacco. Taste is earthy, alcohol, chocolate, caramel and oak. Light bubbles. Not that great to be real honest.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a very dark brown color head with great retention and some good lacing. Aroma is very complex with a mix of black chocolate, coffee and some nice roasted malt with loads of other complex flavors that are very hard to describe. Taste is also a very complex and enjoyable mix between some black chocolate with light lactic sugar and some coffee notes, Body is very full with great carbonation and I thought I smell a little bit of phenolic alcohol. I am glad to have tried this one and makes we want to try some more beers form this brewer.

Sampled at the January ’10 Metro Detroit tasting. Thanks to northernbrews again! Poured a very murky deep brown with a brown head. Aroma was quite boozy with some underlying dark grains and vanilla. Flavor was boozy as well with dark grains and some cereal notes. The beer was nice and slick on the tongue.

Bottle at Chriso Gaylord tasting 09. Thanks to Ruth for bringing back to Florida. Very hazy dark brown colour, lasting rocky dark beige head. Bit of a funky aroma. Funky. Not sure it should be like this. Over carbonated as well. Some decent brown malts, dry malt too. Bit of milk choc ice cream on the flavour. Not quite my thing

Bottle at Chriso Gaylord tasting 09. Thanks again to Ruth for getting this in Florida. Black as hell. Big lasting tan head. Oily poiur. Pure espresso and dark choc on aroma. Not hot. Lots and lots of intense bitter choc and coffee. So you would expect me to like it. And it is good, very decent, but without that wow factor.

Very fruity lovely swallow, chewy fruits, tastes like strawberry chewits/toffos. Great toffee, touch of sherbert hop. Really great. Lovely, so drinkable, no heat anywhere. My first Cigar City beer and very impressed.
