A golden amber IPA with a thin light moka head. In aroma, wonderfully fragrant hops, full of citrus pulp, pinhey, so classy! In mouth, a well balanced IPA with good malt base, smooth floral hops, grapefruits, not in your face, medium bodied. On tap at Peg’s Pizza Cantina, Dec. 12 2009.

Bottle from Tarheels86 at DC tasting. Black color with a tan head and no lacing. Aroma of Irish coffee,with notes of vanilla. Flavor has citrus, burnt espresso, bitter chocolate, and a slight sourness. Thick and chewy body. One of the best beers of the tasting.

Bottle courtesy of Tarheels86 at DC’s first tasting of 2010. Medium brown with an edge head and good lacing. Aroma of caramel malts, flavor of butterscotch. Interesting and tasty.

750ml bottle sampled at the DC Local Tasting. Pours a translucent, mahogany amber with a creamy, slightly beige head. Aroma is pretty mild, some sweetness, fruits, some light spice. Flavor is sweet, a little bitter, oranges, caramel, pine, candy. Finish is sticky, sweet, slightly bitter. Really drinkable. Very nice for a winter beer.

Bottle sampled at the DC Local Tasting. Pours an opaque black with a cloudy head that’s a brick red. Aroma has maple, toasted grains, molasses, coffee, some big sweetness, toasty. Flavor is nice, toast, coffee, nuts, sweet, caramel, grains, bread. Finish is bitter from the coffee and just a little astringent.

750 mL bottle courtesy of afausser. Thanks! Pours a hazy cranberry color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, nuts, cinnamon, toffee, toasted bread and something floral (not hops). Taste is rich and malty... toffee, brown sugar, berries, cinnamon, leafy hops. Medium bodied. Decent.

750ml bottle I got from Big Z in Huntington NY a while back. Pop the cap and UGH!!!!!!!!!, it’s a gusher. Once I finally got it to my glass, the body was a translucent, nearly opaque, deep dark brown with a frothy, sudsy, 2 finger tan head that lasted a long time. OK, I’d give this a five straight up for appearance, but I’m taking a point off for the gush. Aroma was nice and not at all what I expected. Really heavy on the fruits, apples mostly with some pears, plums, some tart cherry, red grapes, candy. Flavor goes right to the tart cherries, apples, pears, caramel, some tobacco, peanuts, earth. Finish is a little chalky, a little dry. This was OK. Probably overrated. Doesn’t really provide anything that you’d recognize as a Nut Brown Ale. The question is are they intentionally defying the standards or did they miss the mark?

Dark my bottle as a run up to New Years Eve. Pours a cloudy, translucent, brown with a frothy, slightly beige head. Aroma is a mixed bag, grassy, earthy, spicy, some light citrus, some sweetness. Flavor is big on the chewy malts, spicy rye, some light toast, earthy hops and mine had a tart/dry/bretty kinda thing going on. I’m not claiming infection, it could have been the mix with the rye, but mine had a very distinct flanders brown finish to the flavor. Silky finish thanks to the oatmeal. Very drinkable, went down a little easy. Slightly dry too. It was OK. I didn’t jump out of my seat but I did drink the whole bottle.

Bottle 74 of 246. Pours out a nice black topped with a medium white head. Aroma is pitfruit, light wood, roast nutts. Taste is much more of the roasted nutts along witht he sweet pitfruit and a little oak. Thanks douglas for sharing this treat.

bottle at Lizzy’s in Orlando, pours dark brown, thin off white film rests on top of the beer. Nice slightly boozy aroma full of hops. Citrus and pine mostly. Flavor is a nice mix of vanilla and wood notes, sweet toffee and carmel, light spice finish. Really nice brew.
