Description
After 75 years of ''abstinence'', the old craft tradition of brewing beer in Zwönitz was brought back to life. On May 17, 1997, a brewery was opened in the old "Schützenhaus". 10-20 hectoliters of beer are produced here every week, strictly according to the German Purity Law.

Pour is an English tea brown with a large white head. Aroma is a slight smoke and toasted bread. Flavor is more smoke and some sweeter bready malt. Kind of a cross between a rauchbier and a marzen. It's ok, even though the date stamp on the bottom of the can says this is good until 3/24 it still tastes kind of old already.

Bottle from the brewery. Looks simple but good. Beer in the glass deep golden, nice small head. Spicy aroma. Starts mild, malty, fine spicy notes. Mild hoppy-grasy background, shy caramel hints. Finish well balanced, fine spicy notes. Nice.

Bottle, thanks to my parents. Color: Dark copper to ruby, beige head. Aroma: Sugary, caramel, dark malt. Taste: Malty, sweet (too sweet) sugary, a lot of caramel, hints of chocolate. Medium sweet, light hopbitterness. Just over medium body, below average carbonation. Too sweet for me and lacking excitement.

Bottle. Color: Almost black, light brown head. Aroma: Roasted malt, mocha and coffee notes. Taste: Coffee, mocha, roasted malt. Very smooth almost creamy mouthfeel. Light hopbitterness. Just over medium body, below average carbonation. Ok Stout but a bit monotonous and boring.

500ml can from Costco Advent Calendar - Dark ruby body, heavy off white top. Nose is woody, smoky bacon, sausages. Taste is malty for a while before the sweet smokiness kicks in. Far from my favourites style, but palatable nonetheless.
