Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.
We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.
In hops we trust!

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Sweet-ish, caramel malty and roasty, dark malty as well as herbal-spicy aroma, notes of bison grass, hints of dark caramel, dark chocolate, some toffee. Taste is roasty, dark malty, sweet-ish, caramel malty and herbal-spicy, notes of bison grass, hints of toffee, some dark chocolate, dark caramel; minimally ashy finish.
Creamy-oily texture, smooth an dsoft, minimally cloying palate, fine, soft, still efficacious carbonation.
Nice composition, harmonious, homogeneous, focussed, relatively light body, well hidden alcohol - good!

Classic very dark porter. The chocolate is quite noticeable. Otherwise not extremely sweet.

Best before in 2021. Trying this bottle yesterday at home, relax during the supper. Light and interesting sour beer with cynamon and clove note, typical sourness, lactic, typical yeast, dry, a bit light and short in aromas at the final, 06.04.22, at Epalinges.

Pale gold with a creamy, white head. Aroma promises orange Gatorade and wort. Taste is very mildly bitter, moderate citric, chalky bitter at the end. Light bodied, moderate carbonation, mildly watery texture. Refreshing but not as much as I’d expected. I suppose it works as a training drink, which is it’s intent. But it’s not nearly as good as the Kamo 45, another beer in this category that I’ve recently tried.
