Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

In hops we trust!

Can. Looking sexy, close to black, with a dense finger-thick beige head. Roasted malts, a touch of dark dried fruit, some hazelnut and a toasted hint. Semi-dry, with a good bitterness. Hints of dark rye bread in the end. Enjoyable. 747414 260410

Smells coffee and cacao. Tastes like coffee and cacao too, with a hint of vanilla. Very nice!

Bottle. Pretty much a clear deep brown amber beer, small bubbly tan head. Airy palate, a little dry, good fine carbonation. Soft dark malts, pretty mellow, a slightly oaty sweetness with a mild chocolate biscuit vibe. Soft ripe fruits. The Pandan leaves bring aromatic soft spice and light exotic fruits. Light smooth finish. Nice brew, as always with these annual Baltic specials. I think this one could have done with a bit more dark malt character, but, a tasty and interesting brew nonetheless.

For a rye beer, you could expect something with more aromas, personally I prefer the Thurm and Taxis version. This one is ok and smooth, watery, side of rye, discreet note apricot, hop rather weak at the final, refreshing during the summer, 10.05.21

Fles gedeeld met Roelzie. Het is een diep donkerbruin tot zwart bier met een medium beige schuim. Het heeft een aroma van gebrande mout, whisky en vanille. De smaak is vol, gebrand, houtig, vanille en whisky achtig.

Black colour, small head. Aroma is soy sauce, some maple syrup, alcohol and some mild dried fruity tones. Flavour is maple syrup, some sweet boozy tones with mild chocolate and dried fruits as well. Overly sweet. A bit coffeeish tones in the finish and aftertaste.
