Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.
We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.
In hops we trust!

Keg at Liquid Dreams 26. Dark opaque brown. Thin foamy beige head. Aroma has full booze and chunky Malts with fruit cake and booze. Medium bodied. Old. Soft carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Yeahhh.

Had this Friday 27th February 2026 around Jude and Baz's, Spond, Herefordshire after cooking a Chicken Tikka Masala, cheers Jude and Baz for picking this up from Pōhjala brewery, Tallin. Pours black with a slim light beige head. Créme de Cassis shows, fruity with a tart edge, nice mouthfeel, smooth, thickness and a little tang. Really good.

Bottle I guess at Goblet ZG, with Pivari Grada Zagreba, thx. Very dark brown body, fleeting brownish head. Extreme dog food maltiness in the aroma. Leathery, sweet taste, dried plums, just too much. Smooth taste, good body, but... not to my preferences I have to say.

Pours extremely dark brown, almost black, filmy head, warming, really warming. Boozy, fumes down the the nose, absolutely marvellous and far too easy drinking. Thickness in the mouth, lovely and incredibly drinkable. Score 8.3

Shared this with my wife over the weekend. Lovely heavy pohjala sipper, this is not that far away from an imperial stout considering it's a gruit, though there are some herbal and especially pohjala's signature forest flavours, although lots here is dark malts and barrel notes. Excellent beer, not quite as exceptional as some of the other cellar series beers.

Can @ home. Clear deep amber body under a nice, lacing beige head. Aroma is strong on roasted caramel malt, with a piny touch and hint of coffee. Taste is medium sweet, roasted malt, caramel, rye bread and balanced bitterness. Fine balanced body and long lasting, pleasant aftertaste. A well made dark lager.
