Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.
We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.
In hops we trust!

From Amstein, St-Légier, opening it on friday, after a lovely walk at Evian. In the kitchen due to the fresh weather, not impressed at the beginnig but after some sips, becoming an averagr pils, really smooth and malty, a bit herbal, a bit sweet, bitter, 29.05.22

Klasse Porter!

From tap @ Beerdock. Head is medium, tanned, average retention. Colour is dark, opaque. Aroma is roasted tones, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, dark bread. Taste is full malty base, light cocoa, milk chocolate, coffee, dark dried fruits, spicy, bit vinous, decent bitterness, soft carbonation, very good, enjoyed for sure.

33cl bottle from Sip, Tallinn. Pours close to pitch black with a fairly modest, brown head. Roasty, malty, sweet, smooth and desserty with dark chocolate, coffee and hints of caramel, dark fruits and alcohol. Warming and quite enjoyable.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to tulip.
Appearance: semi-dark red color with a two finger white foamy head which trailed off at a nice pace but barely left any lace
Aroma: sweet and tart cherries overtake most of the scent but a touch of lemony tart really down underneath
Flavor: takes the prior noted aromas to a melded tart to sweet quality and adds a nice saltiness; finishes cherry tart and sweet with the salt
Texture: medium bodied, light sessionability about this. Very low smoothness as plenty of tart and sour sharpness invades the tongue
Overall: nice cherry sour ale with salt in it. I would return to this beer.

Bottle to snifter.
Appearance: dark brown in the pour but shows more of a black color when held up to the light, a quarter finger of tan foamy head which dissipated inward then didn't bother to leave any lace
Aroma: leads with the dark fruits, good dose of sweet smoke, good level of milk chocolate & dark chocolate, some earthiness and a little bit of black licorice
Flavor: sweet through the blend of the dark fruits & chocolates, the earthiness and black licorice give a little bit of spiciness; mild finish of the dark fruits and subtle spicy earthiness
Texture: medium bodied, leaning to being a sipper, some smoothness but also some roasty grind and a little bit of sweet stickiness
Overall: I never got the truffles in this beer or in the two bottles of this beer before this reviewed bottle. But somehow what was in this beer was nice enough to warrant another bottle just for the heck of it.

Near opaque dark brown beer, small and short lived bubbly pale tan head. Airy palate, mildly dry, good fine carbonation. Fairly mellow malts, a mild dark malt character, some unsweet caramel. The German whisky barrel provides a good whisky soaked ripe fruits, some spice and a little oak barrel induced vanilla. Airy finish. Another barleywine that is a slave to its barrel. But, tasty and drinkable.

Near opaque dark brown beer, small bubbly dark tan head that doesn't last too long. Smooth palate, a mild viscosity and a very mild dryness, decent fine carbonation. Rich dark malts, rich chocolate with a great woody smoke accompaniment. The rye whiskey sits very well here, spicy rice ripe dark fruity booze that is unsurprisingly spicy with it. Smooth finish. Not had a smoke job in ages, what a way to break that dry spell. This is wonderfully rich and, errr, a bit grown up like.

Bottle. An intense, yet kind of balanced, porter with lots of chocolate. Some booze, oak and coffee. Roasted malts and some hints of dark berries and brown sugar. It's sweet, but with a decent bitterness to bring some balance. Nice indeed. 848415 260220
