Description
Established in 2004 by Robert Wicks, the Westerham Brewery Company is proud to bring brewing back to the historic town of Westerham. With a rich brewing heritage, Westerham can once again be proud of locally brewed, top quality real ales. Producing exceptional craft beer for the local market, we support the initiative to reduce food miles in the supply chain. Many ‘national brands’ are transported long distances and suffer from poor storage and handling.
Westerham Brewery Company has revived many of the much-loved flavours of the old Black Eagle Brewery, which closed in 1965 following the catastrophic consolidation by the ‘Big Brewers’ in the 1950’s. The yeast is re-cultured from the Black Eagle strain.

Bottle from The Crafty Barbers. Pours a slightly hazy amber colour with a medium sized throthy white head. Aromas of citrus fruits, light apricot and biscuits. Taste has more gentle citrus and apricot, biscuits and an earthy and grassy hop bitterness on the finish. Fairly light bodied and a smooth slightly oily mouthfeel. Nice subtle flavours and not too overpowering. Good one.

Bottle from The Crafty Barbers. Pours a slightly hazy light amber colour with a medium sized foamy off-white head. Aromas of citrus fruits, lemon, grapefruit and floral. Taste has more citrus notes, floral, hints of biscuits and a grassy bittersweet finish. Medium body with a smooth oily mouthfeel. i am not usually a fan of pale ales but this is a nice one and it’s not too severe on the citrus bitterness. I’d be happy to have it again. Good.

Bottle from The Crafty Barbers. Pours an almost clear golden colour with a smallish throthy white head. Aromas of cereals, hay, straw and small hints of honey and lemon. Taste has more of the same notes but also a nice citrus and grassy hop bitterness. Medium to full bodied with a smooth slightly oily mouthfeel, average carbonation. Big bitter citrus and grassy hop on the dry finish. Pleasantly surprised by this one. Nice enough beer.

9/1/2020. Keg at Crafty Fellas, Leadenhall Market. Pours jet black with a creamy long lasting off-white head. Aroma of mild roasted malt, milk chocolate, touch of coffee and dark fruit though aroma likely suppressed by how cold it was served. Moderate sweetness and a medium roasted bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, soft carbonation. Enjoyable.
