Westerham Brewery Company has revived many of the much-loved flavours of the old Black Eagle Brewery, which closed in 1965 following the catastrophic consolidation by the ‘Big Brewers’ in the 1950’s. The yeast is re-cultured from the Black Eagle strain.

A coworker was kind enough to bring me this back from the UK. Westerham Brewery Kentish Pale Ale 4% Orange color with off-white soapy foam that leaves nice Belgian lacing. Sweet malty aroma. The taste has herbal notes that on first taste I thought evoked fresh hops. Further dips give tobacco, honeyed malts and a touch of acrid ashiness. I think I also get some diacetyl. To me this feels very English, it feels like it’d shine more on cask.

Keg @ Ravensgate Arms, Ramsgate. Black with a light brown head. It has an alcohol infused roasted nose, although a tad more subdued in taste - but obviously still full tasting given its strength.
