Description
Life's too short for boring, middle of the road beers. Craft Brewery Kees! stands for tasty, fruity, hoppy flavours and strong dark ales, but there'll always be that 'twist' . That special 'something' that make his beers stand out.
Owner and brewer Kees Bubberman started his brewing career in 2007 at Emelisse, a small regional brewery in Kamperland, Zeeland. Within a couple of years Emelisse became a household name among craft breweries worldwide, thanks to the by British and American beer styles inspired ales, IPA's, strong porters, stouts that Kees Bubberman brewed. Never afraid of trying something new and relying on his experience as a restaurant chef he created more than 30 new beers, including an IPA with Earl Grey tea, barrel aged porters en stouts and strong porters and stouts with coffee. Kees was ahead of his time with experimental flavours like these.
In 2014 Kees Bubberman decided to start his own brewery in his hometown Middelburg. Thankful for the opportunities Emelisse gave him, he felt that it was time to go his own way. Brewery Kees! started in January 2015 and within a year his delicious IPA's, strong porters, Russian Imperial stouts and barrel aged barley wines, porters en stouts found their way in the (beer-)world.
Kees keeps on creating new beers and searching for new tastes, sometimes following and sometimes setting trends.

@ ACBF 2015. Hazy amber colour, white foam. Medium carbonation. Malty body, bitter finish. Very English profile. Ok.

Sample at ACBF. Robust porter with creamy, dense, light beige head and near black colour; pleasant and fairly complex aroma of walnuts, bitter chocolate, dried citrus peel, hemp, some ’natural’ iron, coffee grounds; sweetish caramelly taste with dried fruits, increasing roasted bitterness in the end as well as citrussy and peppery hop bitterness, drying the finish. Very good start of a new brewery, but I hadn’t really expected anything less from this brewer.

Draft sample @ ACBF 2015.

Sampled draft @ ACBF 2015. Dark brown, little bubbles. Mineral nose, almost touch sour, mocha, sweetness, chocolate,… Taste is first bitter herbal, followed by sweetness, light roasty, big dry-out, little tart, roast, earthly. Really dries-out the mouth. Touch thin. Prob. not ready yet like the rest of his beers. Needs some work still. (Thanks for sharing people!!!)

Draft @ ACBF 2015.

Tasted at ACBF 2015, can’t believe I’m the first one... Had a good chat with the brewer and though I am a bit concerned about Emelisse’s future now, I am equally convinced his new brewery will gain lots of attention. This one poured a slightly hazy golden blonde colour under a steady, moussy, yellowish white head; aroma is dry-hopped yet subtle, gracious and ’friendly’ APA all the way through (more APA than IPA indeed), with suggestions of fresh lemon peel, field flowers, white grapes and pineapple; fruity taste, vivid and refreshing with a lemony sourish touch, hint of bready malts in the middle but the floral and slightly citrussy Citra hops get all the credits, ensuring a long, drying, citrus peel, flowery finish with a hint of the initial fruitiness still shining through. Subtly lemony, very refreshing, quenching example of its style, to say the least.
