Description
The Rodenbach family established the brewery in 1821 in the West Flemish town of Roeselare. The beer owes it unique quality and masterful character to the oak casks in which it matures. Rodenbach is the archetypical Flemish red-brown ale from West Flanders. Recognised as a regional product, it is probably the most award-winning beer in the world.

Red brown with little white fizzy head. Bier rouge style. Of course very sour but has some sweetness as well. A lot easier to drink than the grand cru edition. Refreshing in the summer! Great and exiting!

Pink reddish ale with a thick pinkish ale. Sweet cherry aroma with lightly acidic points. Smooth sweet cherries with little lactic points, overall not bad, but more like a cherry pop, not a flemish sour!!!. Bottle at EBF 2006.

New rating for the 2016 version Pink-yellow head, huge and reasonably stable over clear ruby beer. Quite sour nose, lactic, acetic. Plus a very perfumey, aromatic aroma with red fruit, cherryessence, and felt. Somehow not convincingly natural. Sourish short onset followed byt the sweet, perfumey, unconvincing cherry(sweets) flavour. Sharp, spritzy carbonation that doesn’t appear visually. Some acidthinning in the body. Yeah, this is more or less like it was. I never wanted it to return, and I sure still don’t. Read hereunder why. Was: 8/4/7/5/13-3.7/5Deep red amber; good yellowish head, leaving some lace. End of the bottle pours solid hazy. Great Grand Cru nose with both lactic and acetic - AND a touch of fruit extract sweetness, even after all these years. Very good sour-sweet balance in the taste: here the age has done well, even when the MF still betrays the syrupy slickness. Bit of lemony flavour, grapefruit and blood oranges. Very tittilating beer, spritzy and sticky at the same time. I used to hate this beer - the best way of ruining a great Grand Cru. Then again, I expected age to be beneficial to this, and it was. All faults have not been gommed, but now I could drink it - which is a relief from Redbl*dybach

Re-rate: 10/122/06. Pours dark ruby/mahogany into a snifter. Sour malt aromas. Fizzy with upfront sour cherry and a lasting bitter cherry finish. Quite different from my first bottle. Ratings note difference. Bad Bottle 2/24/06: Smells quite vinegary. Deep golden color. Fizzy palate. Very sour. My god is this sour. White vinegar sour - probably would make a good marinade. 5/4/4/4/10

Reddish-amber coloured, thin foamy layer; sourish-fruity nose, traces of vinegar, rust, barrique; sweet-sour flavour, quite light bodied; sour-fruity, a bit tart finish. A decent, refreshing sour Ale, but nothing more........
