Description
The Rodenbach family established the brewery in 1821 in the West Flemish town of Roeselare. The beer owes it unique quality and masterful character to the oak casks in which it matures. Rodenbach is the archetypical Flemish red-brown ale from West Flanders. Recognised as a regional product, it is probably the most award-winning beer in the world.

Tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Given at 3.4% of alcohol. Pours dark red, towards brown, with fine cream foam. Aroma is not intense, of cherries. Body and carbonation are average. Taste is moderate sweet. Acidity is not really evident, probably just providing dryness in final.

Sample, thanks oh6gdx! Clear reddish brown, small head. Aroma of mango syrup and raspberry preserve. Mildly tart with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Tartness and funky oak fights mango bubblegum for attention. It ends with a mess. A lovely base beer with a ketchup-like addition of flavouring agents.

0.25l bottle. Aroma is vinous and musty with red fruity note. Pours clear amber brown color with thin creamy tan-like head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts moderate sweet malty, following is woody, tannic, fruity and faint vinous with smooth mouthfeel and very mild bitter finish. Light to medium body, creamy texture and soft carbonation in palate. Sweet & sour, but not Chinese…

Bottle: Poured a pale reddish color ale with a small bubbly head with limited retention and not much lacing. Aroma of cherry notes with some oak and light syrupy notes of mango/raspberry. Taste is also a mix of oak and cherry notes with some syrupy raspberry and mango notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. We have come a long way from traditional Flemish sours…

A copper amber ale with with no head. In aroma, sweet mango, berries, light lactic notes, so-so. In mouth, tart mix of ground cherry, light mango, papaya, Epsom salts, OK.
