330 ml. bottle sampled. Purchased @ De Hopduvel. BBF 01/08/2016. Deep amber, light copper, tanned solid head. Nose is metallic, old leaves, butterscotch, oxidation, heavy metallic, copper, light dust. Taste is herbal, metallic, medicinal roots, ginger candy, bay leaf, copper, herbal, toffee,… A bit watery, doughy, some paper. Too rich of medicinal herbs, copper etc. notes for my liking. Not thick enough. Interesting ’though.

This needs some explanation. This sample, about 30 yrs of age, has been unearthed from the cellar in honour of the new Contreras 13 Pils, and because of discovering that nobody ever rated this. Today gone, it was a normal-commercially available beer in the Gavere area, Rafexport being a slightly sweeter version of the Contra Pils Mediium, bit fluffy snowwhite head, slowly fading over big-bubbled old-golden beer. Intense dry sherry-like, nutty and bit carboard nose, typical for an aged light ale or dito good lager. Sweet (indicates the export), faintly (wal)nutty-bitterish flaovur, but with lots of sweetish, bready and toasted malts behind. Oxydation, dry sherry, hazelnutoil. Low carbonation (the age!), but nowhere lame,light body. Of course, completely different from the same 30 yrs. ago. But it’s a tribute to a forgotten style, and a renewed faith in the fact that (any) good beer can be aged.

Bottle at ash’s. Pours hazy orange amber, nose is sweet toffee, caramel, vanilla, taste is dry, toffee, light fruit.

Bottle thanks to Jeevan. Appearance - golden amber with a decent thin head. Nose - apples and lemon. Taste - toffee, more apple. Some citrus. Palate - close to medium bodied with a tangy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - solid.

Bottle at Ashton McCobb’s. Pours clear amber with a thin white head. Aromas of malty toffee. Taste is toffee, sweet milky puddings. Sweet finish.

Gylden brun klar med høyt eggegult skum. Lukter lite, noe sitrus og trevirke. Søtlig, fruktig og noe brunt sukker. Medium bitter, noe syrlig. Lang bitter avsluttning.

Velskjenket fra fat på Den tatoverede enke, med Kitty: uklar guloransje med flott skum som varer. Nydelig aroma og smak av bær, krydder, stkkkelsbær, honning og grapefrukt. Og perfekt til enkas fish&chips!

03/07/2015 @ home - 33cl bottle from a gift (2,5 years overdue). Amber with fast fading white head. Sweet smell, caramel, spices. Taste is grains, fruits, spices, sweetness, caramel.
