Description
In 2005, Leonardo Di Vicenzo opened Birra del Borgo’s first brewery, Collerosso, in Borgorose, a small village located in the Valle del Salto, in province of Rieti, on the border between Lazio and Abruzzo. 2009 marked a watershed for Birra del Borgo with the opening of our new brewery. Moving out of our one-room space at Collerosso and into a modernized facility, our new brewery became the heartbeat of the company and cleared a way to fulfilling our brewing ambitions.

In 2015 Collerosso brewery begins new life. We rethought it entirely to pursue a new journey of research and discovery: Spontaneous Fermentation. Allowing wild yeast in the air to ferment the beer directly in the Coolship, marked an important milestone in our journey. Indeed, Collerosso and these beers represent our feeling to always change, to always strive to discover more. We are always restless and eager to see things from a different, unique, new perspective.

In 2016 Birra del Borgo was bought for 100% by AB InBev.

75cl bottle from LowCostBeer: BB Mar 2021. Drank in the afternoon sun on my patio on 17th Apr 2021. Out of date by 6 weeks, shared with my wife and son. Poured a cloudy amber bronze, off-white head. Caramel/malty molasses in both the nose and taste, semi-sweet and almost interesting, I actually liked it, wife and son not so sure.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour with brief, foamy head. Something reminiscent of cork residue floating around on the surface. Roasted, vinous, slightly sourish nose with notes of coffee, liquorice, oak wood, a touch of balsamic vinegar, prunes and cherries in brandy. Malty, vinous, slightly tart taste with coffee, tart red berries, liquorice, oak wood, some balsamic vinegar, a touch of port wine, prunes, figs and sour cherries. Full body, but quite smooth and not oily and sticky. A certain sweetness. Interesting and very different. Initially confusing, but seriously growing on me. Vinous, roasty, woody and fairly tart. Great beer!

Backlog March 2019. Clear amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma has caramel malt and Belgium yeast with a spicy touch. Taste is sweet malt, some caramel, dry fruit, spicy and slightly harsh bitterness. Medium body and same aftertaste. Kind of interesting but not totally in balance.

Bottle from Conad, Assisi. Clear golden, small, white head. Aroma of orange peel, yellow apple, pear, yeast, melon, honey. Taste has sweetish apple & pear, bittersweet orange peel, slight bready-yeasty profile. Dry, spicy, grassy hoppy finish, lingering orange & pear. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Decent enough, it does have an 'authentic' feel to it.

33cl bottle from hopt.it. Pours hazy gold, with fine white foam. Aroma is hoppy, a little tropical. Body is average, like carbonation. Taste is medium-high bitter, but also with some sweetness behind. Final is pretty rich, fruity and medium sweet.
