Cask-conditioned at the Black Horse, Amberley, Gloucestershire 9 July 2022. Deep gold in colour, with a frothy, off-white, head that left plenty of lacing down the glass. Hedgerow hops, some red berry and tangerine fruits, ripe malts and a lingering, bitter, finish. Very drinkable.

Cask at the White Swan JDW, Solihull. Poured a clear amber colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head and some broken lace. The aroma is malt, light sweet citrus fruits. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet, with a smooth, malt, light sweet fruit, toffee, yeasty, light woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. The best cask bitter I’ve had in a long while.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Pours clear very pale gold with a small white head.Very light citrus aroma with some caramel. Taste: very light, light to moderate sweet with low bitterness. Light caramel, a little citrus & banana. Light body with light carbonation. Pretty decent for a boring style.

Cask at Raglan Arms, Rugby. Pours a pale gold with a small off-white head and good lacing. There’s malt in the aroma, alongside traces of hops and citrus. In the mouth it starts off fruity with a biscuit base, but later on some floral hops come through. Finish is quite dry. Not a lot you can say about this beer really – pretty unremarkable.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a crystal clear, chestnut brown colour with a mostly lasting bubbly off white head. The aroma is roasty malt, light nuts and red berry fruits. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter, with a light, slightly watery, roasty, light red berry fruit, light dry hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation. Tasty, but very light.

Clear russet brown with a creamy off-white head and a sweet and sour fruity aroma, akin to a tin of prunes! It's smooth a semi-creamy, but has a tingly sensation to the mouthfeel, sweet and fruity with some light roasted malt lurking and a tart bitter finish

Handpull cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Light to mid-gold, clear, with a small white head. Light aroma, some caramel, some light citrus. Tastes sweet, intensely so, with a light bitterness in the finish is. Caramel, banana and icing sugar in the aftertaste. Full body, light carbonation. Not much to it but to be fair this is decent.

Cask at Exeter Arms, Derby Pours a dark copper with a small white head and good lacing. Malts and corn combine in a distinct aroma. A good mix of flavours in the mouth too, with malts, nuts, oranges and ginger. Finish is slightly spicy. A good traditional best bitter – its not a golden ale.

ABV: 4.4%. Clear medium to light amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, sweet malt, pale malt, nutty, caramel, sweet malt - candy, malty. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a long duration, sweet malt, caramel, candy, nutty. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20200126]
