0.5 l bottle from local ’real’, best before May 2017. Slightly hazy, golden amber with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish, slightly malty and a bit grassy aroma of caramel, some honey, straw and bread. Slightly sweetish, a bit malty and moderately grassy taste of caramel, bread, some honey and straw, followed by a short, slightly bitter, moderately grassy finish. Thin to medium body, minimally watery and a bit effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Not great, quite tasteless actually, most other macro brewers released nicer Zwickl/Kellerbier stuff in the recent past in Germany. Not sure if disappointing is the right word, but I did expect a bit more.

Pours dark orange brown from the bottle. The average sized head soon fades, but a thin creamy top lingers for the duration. The aroma goes in the usual directions with the wheat malt and yeasty notes being evident. Banana is also present, but remains relatively subdued. The saphir and perle hops are, according to the label, supposed to play a defining role here. To my nose they remain very much in the background. Perhaps I was expecting too much. The taste is wheat malt, banana, clove. Finish is dry and unremarkable. A fairly conventional Weizen in the end. Still, this is pleasant sipping. No problem drinking more of these. A touch more carbonation would be nice.
