ruby brown with a full rounded teacly maly with a deep ad pleasent roast linger BA version Deep dark brown ... thin tan lacing ... deep rich berry fruits ...cherry and molasis nose ... dark roast malts ... sweet fruits ... quite a lot of alcohol ... cherries and chocolate ... reminds me of a Rich Alcoholic Cherry Chocolate cake .. 3.8

Cask at The Tin Goose, London Heathrow Airport. A hazy amber pint with a white head that lasted to the end leaving heavy lacing; a sweet malty aroma; an amazing bitter marmalade taste; but the aftertaste is less exciting, thin and dry.

Chestnut with a think tan head; aroma of malt and caramel; smooth and full in the mouth, malty sweet with a hint of toffee apple; slighty soar and dry finish. Warming.

Dark golden with a small white head. Tiny floral hop aroma. Bitter and dry flavour with a hint of caramel sweetness, and long lasting bitterness.

Cask Nearly no head; near black beer with ruby highlights. Is it possible to make a near-noseless beer? Well, A_B would, but - Adnams? Some (dark) greenery, searching hard. Sweet, liquorice, slightly roasted. Syrupy dark malts and caramel, with a slight spicey touch as juniper berry. Very slick, full-bodied and oily, going more flavours retronasal than nose + first taste combined. I still have to understand the Adnams’ fan club. I think most of their beers are fairly... standard.

Bottle from Asda. poured a clear dolden colour with a little white head and light carbonation; light hoppy aroma; explodes in the mouth with a rich grapefruit flavour. Excellent bitterness to start, if this beer lacks anything it’s follow through - the aftertaste is disappointingly light.

Cask at the Boat Inn, Stoke Breune, Northants. Poured an amber colour, small white head, hops and malts dominate the aroma although it wasn’t too powerful a nose. Tase was quite refreshing and bitter good hops and malts, still not as good as the Frog Island best bitter which I returned to after this. [i] Cask at The Crown Charlton-On-Otmoor 14-10-07 [/i]Very decent session beer, not overy complex but good bitterness and pleasant enough.

Cask at the Boat Inn, Stoke Breune, Northants. Poured a darker brown that I expected, some sulphur on the nose along with some dried fruits, taste was also fruitier than I anticipated and pleasantly malty with some hops but a bit safe and not a patch on its bottled stablemate.

On tap at Bridge House, London. Pale copper with lasting beige head. This is, well,....terrible. It is just all over the place. Big hop over an artificial malt base. Peach/yeast aroma. Frankly it just doesn’t make any sense. Hop is just too extreme and sherberty for the body of the beer. Adnams yeasty apple aroma, but the rest is terrible. Mind you according to Jonathan Adnams, it wasn’t made for me anyway. As he says in The Publican, “But this beer is for people who have made the decision not to drink cask beer. We are seeing an increasing area of the on-trade where retailers have decided that cask is a non-existent proposition." Oh dear, dear, dear me........ It’s a sad day.
