Description
In 2003, Tony Traen, took over Kapel van Viven from Willy De Lobel (the founder of Kapel van Viven) Since then, chapel of Viven has undergone several changes: a brand new look, an improved recipe for the Monastery of Viven and a new name. Chapel and Monastry of Viven were baptized Viven Blond and Viven Brown.

The idea to apply our Flemish brewing art to non-Flemish beers haunted Tony and together with Dirk Naudts (owner of the Proef brewery), he developed the recipes of the promising Viven Ale, Viven Porter, Viven Imperial IPA and Viven Master IPA. These exceptional beers, that would truly tempt any beer connoisseur, have been successfully launched onto the beer market in 2010, making them accessible to a wider audience of beer lovers.

For Tony and Krystle Traen, the driving forces behind the brewery, Viven has been a passion for over twenty years.

Krystle, one of the few female brewers in Belgium, is responsible for the taste of the different beers in the range. She composes the recipes and brews the first test batches in the kettles in Damme. When a new beer is tasted and approved by Krystle, the production moves to the Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi to be able to brew higher volumes. Tony is responsible for the administration, transport and sales. He started the Viven story, more than twenty years ago, in the little town of Vivenkapelle and turned it into an international brand.

Znakomite, niemal doskonale. Porter porzadnie czarny i porzadnie podwedzany. Stanowczo wytrawne i wedzone czarne piwo ze spora iloscia mazi w butelce. Piana szaro brazowa, gigantyczna, a po czasie zamiast opadac wrecz sama rosnie. Spodziewalem sie dobrego piwa a otrzymalem super smaczne. Naprawde nie ma sie czego przyczepic. Goraco polecam

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Tom L. Black with a big brown head. Aroma of roast, coffee, some cocoa notes and mild smoky touch. Roasty and mildly smoky flavor with coffee, dark chocolate, a fruity note and a smoky finish. Rounded mouthfeel, slightly creamy. Very nice.

Rerate of this 'modern classic' - or isn't it yet? Pours cloudy black with a lasting, frothy, beige head; little lacing. 'Dark' aroma of lucifer, burnt wood, cooked ham, sweet tobacco, shag, roasted & salted peanuts, coal. It tastes medium malty sweet, hint of toasted bread, a bit smoky, and light to medium roasted bitter, some fondant; nutty back. Dryish, toasty, herbal hoppy finish, lingering smoky malt & ash. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Still a great beer, and luckily widely available.

7.5% version... Slightly hazyreddish dark brown with small light brown head. Lots of caramel, toast, very ripe red plums, raisins, chocolate, and some herbal touch. Medium sweet with light roasted bitte rin the finish. Medium bodied, average carbonation, slightly watery herbal finish. Like the other Viven beers a decent example in the style.

330ml bottle. Minimally cloudy, orangey, deep golden colour with average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Malty, minimally fruity, and floral yeasty aroma, a touch of apricot. Taste is slightly fruity, minimally sweet bready malty, minimally spicy yeasty. Not bad, but slightly cautious, lacking intensity.

Slightly hazy amber with full cream colored head. Sweet malts with light roasted touch, massive tropical fruits (pineapple, mango, lychee). Even a hint of chocolate. Medium bodied with creamy feel. Lovely.
