Cask at the Head of Steam, Birmingham. Poured a crystal clear yellow colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, yeast. The flavour is moderate to light bitter and sweet, with a light, slightly watery, smooth, light citrus, woody hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Handpull cask at the Kings Head, Leicester. Light yellow and clear with a small whitish head. Light grainy aroma, maybe a touch of Chardonnnay. Taste is sweet, shot through with notes of white wine, but the juxtaposition is jarring. Bitter and slightly acrid aftertaste. This was a beer I was really looking forward to trying but it's a bit weird.

Cask @ The Royal Oak, Shrewsbury. Pours a hazed gold with white head. Biscuity malt nose. Taste is biscuity malt with a bitterness that suggests it's been hanging around in the barrel too long. No grape notes here whatsoever. Not fresh tasting, unclean lines for sure. I think this is the last time I'll ever visit this place, until the next new management comes in anyway. Rated objectively.

Cask at Dog Inn, Burton on Trent. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head and good lacing. There’s malts and sweet milk chocolate in the aroma. But the mouth is totally different There’s an immediate hit of bitter coffee grounds, quickly followed by roasted malts, tar, and liquorice, with some underlying caramel sweetness. A little smokiness in the texture too. Bitterness lasts into the finish. Great is great – it’s got plenty of oomph !
